Nope,not a typo.....

Sorry about the forward nature of my request, but needs must, and this Devil is driving me hard.....

I'm at a point in my thesis where I really need to include some ACTUAL work, instead of the waffly ramblings of a prolific navel gazer, and I would love to hear from you.

I'm doing a study about identity in internet BBS communities, and Buffy related boards are my focus group. Having had 2 boards I was a member of close down (BBUK, and Slayer Boards) I have come up short on the raw data, so I was wondering if any of you folks would like to help me out?? I had always kept this board as my 'leisure' board away from work, but I am in a bit of a fix.

***begs convincingly in the corner***

If any of you lovely people are of a 'let me tell you about myself' persuasion, (hell, isn't that whay we are all here anyway?!?!) then PLEASE pm me and I can send you some questions to answer. Confidentiality guaranteed, answer whichever questions you want etc. (unless you want to be known as your user name and give me a 10,000 word essay.....) I need about 20 - 30 people, so the next time you are bored on a weekend, let me know 😉

Ok, two takers so far.....

Any more? 😉

PM sent... :)
Come on BB! Getting participants is sucky, help her out it'll only take a bit of ur time!

and then there were three.......

Many thanks so far to Dia DeLa Muerte and Mr. Pointy for their returned questionnaires. Seven lovely people have been sent questionnaires, so there is plenty of space for some new participants!

😉

Thank you to AngelsBaby101 for your completed questionnare too.....

And to Wolf...... lots of detail, thanks!

Also to Lyri and Tuckers Cousin for completed responses. You are all lovely people who deserve lots of virtual chocolate (I've just had a Reeces Nutrageous.... I'll share it with you all!)

😀

Yeah shoot baby, shoot. I'm all willing to answer a few questions, just pm or email me (in my profile) and I'm sure I'll answer in a few days time, unless the questions require a lot of mental capacity, then it might take a few weeks.

Wow you are all so fantastic at volunteering I have managed to get myself in a right pickle and exceed my PM allowance!!!! Please all be patient and bear with me - I'm trying to PM you all with the questionnare today.

To be honest if I had known how willing and kindhearted everyone would be I would have asked ages ago!!!

**hugs**

Kali, my computer hiccuped a couple times when I was sending that back to you, so I hope you didn't get it five times, LOL!

Nope, just got it the once thanks! ;)
Right I'm on the case..... anyone who hasn't yet had a questionnaire will be getting it in the next few hours, and anyone who hasn't had a thank you back from me will also be getting a PM in the next few hours. Phew!

You have all been really kind and big squeezy hugs to all! Buffy-boards ROCK!!!

Hope it's not too late to volunteer? I'll see if i can fill it out... Gimme gimme 😉 😀

Nope, not too late!

So far I have sent out 27 questionnaires, but I can just keep on going. So if any of you who haven't yet volunteered stumble across this thread in a couple of weeks, feel free to contact me!

😀

Got it fine thanks, Slayers Destiny!

XDruX asked me the question of what I am going to do with it, so I thought it might be a good idea to tell you all. Here's what I said to her, so you all have the same info!

Right, what will I do with it? Ok, I'm on my final (ish) year of a part time PhD in Sociology, and I am writing about Community, Identity and the Internet, with my focus on Fans and how they use identiity online to make a community, and how being a fan might influence what happens in that community, compared to people who are, I dunno, into cookery or cycling. So I look for rich qualitative information given by kind people (like yourself!) to help give a better understanding of what it feels like to be online, how you think it enriches your life and so on. For example, one of my first interviews (back when Willow had just turned all black eyed....I mean how long ago was that!) said that she used to use her online identity as a way of trying out new ways of speaking, acting with more confidence etc, until eventually she embodied those traits offline too and it made her a much more confident person.

Much of what is written by academics is a bit negative, particularly about the internet as a community, so I hope to disprove that, and make the point that whether or not it is a community is irrelevant - if the people in it think it's a community is what matters! And there is also a lot of stuff about how people online have a 'persona' but in my experience, the longer you hang out somewhere, the harder it is to be someone you aren't, so people are more or less the same on and offline, once they have found their feet . And we don't all talk Buffy all the time! So in each chapter I give examples and quotes from threads to support my argument, and of course, pm's with participants like yourself.

😀 (hope that encourages some more people to come forward!)
