In the episode "Bad Girls" at the end where they defeat Balthazaar, as hes dyign he says somethign about "Whe he rises you'll wish I killed you all". Who was he talking about rising?
With his dying breath, Balthazar warns them of his enemy. "When he rises, you'll wish I'd killed you all."
In his office that night, the Mayor performs a ritual in front of Mr. Trick and the captured vampire. Once it is finished, the Mayor orders that the vampire has his weapon returned to him and be released. Mr. Trick is confused, but does as he's told and releases the vampire. The vampire immediately attacks the Mayor by slicing his head in half... however the head promptly repairs itself with no ill effect on the Mayor and Mr. Trick stakes the surprised vampire. The Mayor tells his right-hand man that the hundred days before the Ascension has begun and that during that period he is completely invincible.
Ok, then if it is the mayor, my next question is this: How does Balthazaar know the mayor, and how does he know of the Mayor's acension? Come to think of it, why did Balthazaar send one od his men to kill the Mayor?
I have been a long time fan of the series and have seen it several times, and I always thought he was talking about the Mayor as well. Though now I am beginning to think it is in reference to "The first Evil" that will come in Season 7.
I think that you're most likely right. The reference to "the amulet" certainly makes a very good argument for that case. Also, the reference to "burning this world to a cinder," which was exactly what the amulet did in Season 7, though it was turned against the First Evil's "world' rather than ours, and "destroying this town," something that I'm not really sure that the Mayor would have wanted to do, seeing as how he was responsible for it being there in the first place. Mayor Wilkins wanted to conquer the world, not destroy it, and he most likely saw Sunnydale as his ideal seat of power.
