Buffy, Willow, Giles or Xander?
Which one could the Scoobs have done without? Id have to go with Xander.

They were all important. All special.
I chose Xander because he was the only one that didn't have anything specific to bring to the group. Buffy is the slayer, Willow is the witch, and Giles is the knowledgeable one on the occult. I didn't like having to pick though, because I don't think Xander is useless.

Xander is correct
Although Xander didnt exactly have any powers he still played his part in the group and was the hero on multiple occasions. I also would feel bad picking one...

I did not vote because I thought this poll was extremely unfair. They were all important. If you haven't watched Primeval, then you should.

I'm sorry to say this poll is irrelevant. All Scoobies are important.

It's irrelevant yes, but I really had to think about! It was interesting. I had kind of fun. But I did not vote too! ;D
Xander. "I make jokes and have sex with Anya" is basically how I summarize Xander from seasons 5-7

Living Dead Boy said:
None of the above. The hand. The heart. The spirit. The mind. One wouldn't survive without the other. The Core Four were all important.

What about Giles in season 6 and 7? Xander in seasons 5-7? Both characters essentially became background props and the Scoobies relationship was broken in the last 2 seasons

Oh you put me through hell. I think there is no Scoobie-Gang without the "fantastic 4". If you would force me to chose I would chose ... ohm ... wait... I would chose... or no that's really impossible... (Whisper: Xander)
Now I feel ashame....

Okay, okay... I voted for the obvious, but I agree that every one of them are important in their own way. It wouldn't be the same if one of them were to leave.

I love them all and think they're all helpful but if I had to pick one, it's Giles. Giles was more helpful in the first two seasons when the gang was more unused to monsters and Buffy was more petulant about having to be the Slayer. However once the gang learned how to research and they brought in Tara and Anya for extra magical knowledge, Giles started to feel less important.

Giles is really smart and a great researcher but other Scoobies are smart and can research. Compare that to no Scooby being able to hack or program or do Big Magic like Willow or no Scooby being able to slay like Buffy. And then, Giles doesn't have big moments where he single handedly saves the world like Prophecy Girl or Grave or The Zeppo like Xander. I'm also pretty damn sure that Giles sees less combat than Xander.

I voted for Xander, not because he is unimportant, but because I felt like he would have been the easiest one to replace in the group.

No one. They were all important and could not be replaced.

It saddens me to think that most believe that Xander could be replaced or that he didn't offer much to the group. Xander had offered so much, his courage and loyalty were pretty much a Xander thing.

Prophecy Girl showed Giles telling everybody that Buffy went to face the Master and no one, and I mean no one, did something about it but Xander. If Xander wasn't there, Buffy would have died. So that's what Xander offered. Courage, loyalty and love.

Neither of them wouldn't have even made it to the sixth or seventh season without each other.

What does that mean?

I'm saying that in seasons 5-7 Xander didn't do anything, he stood in the back and made jokes. Giles left the show in season 6, and in season 7 he stood around and got insulted by Buffy. Buffy and Willow were the only Scoobies who contributed in all 7 seasons

I don't see it that way. People, or groups of friends, find their own ways in life, especially if you're coming of age. What happened in the later seasons was sad, granted, but I find that very realistic, in my experiences anyway. They all were still important because growing up, they've helped each other find themselves, lifted them up, and gave them a newfound purpose in life. They came a long way since season one, and I don't think that they would be the same without each other.

The Scooby relationship didn't benefit them all, Giles had a rough life after season 3. He was constantly bouncing from jobs and stayed unemployed, Buffy no longer valued him (when she says she has nothing else to learn from him), in season 8 he dies and he doesn't fix his relationship with Buffy and ends up leaving his stuff for Faith. What satisfaction did he get from the Scoobies? None.

Xander lived a pretty normal life, and from season 5-7 he didn't spend as much time them. He spent most of his time with Anya. I agree they helped him find his purpose in life, but he didn't contribute much except on one or two occasions.

Well I just don't see it that way. Agree to disagree. Especially about the comics, which I don't even count, even if they are considered canon. 😛 It's clear you're an Angel fan. 😀

I'm curious how you do see the show. How do you think Giles was at the end of the show? If you explain yourself better it would be easier to have this discussion. A lot of people act like the Scoobies were so great...when they were not, their relationship in the last 2 seasons was broken and they found more important relationships. They even kicked Giles out. And I have never met anyone who can defend them successfully. I say the truth, and people don't like hearing that their Scoobies were broken.

And I am an Angel fan because the Fang Gang was a family. They stood together and kept fighting even when there was no chance of victory (Not Fade Away or Apocalypse Nowish). They had their problems, but they always resolved it. They were the most important people in their lives.

And the comics are canon. It is called Season 8 and 9. It is written by Joss Whedon. I agree they aren't very good, but they count.

I'm just not even gonna vote, because I believe all of them were unreplaceable. They were needed for the show to keep going. 🙂
