Who was the BEST Dracula?

I'm assuming that most of you have seen Bram Stocker's Dracula and Van Helsing...which are two of my FAVOURITE films, by the way. 😃

Both Gary Oldman and Richard Roxbury did a spectacular job in their respective roles. No question about that! I still get chills when I watch them. Oh yes. 💕💕💕

Now, your job is to choose who was better. Good luck! 😈

It has been a long time since I saw either movie (longer for the former), but I am going to have to go with Richard Roxburgh because his face is just that little bit scarier. And he's an Aussie.

It depends; Gary Oldman's Dracula is the retconned 'Dracula as romantic/tragic Gothic lead' instead of an actual proper monster (who happens to be seductive), which I tend to hate.
However for that role he did miles better than Roxbury's 'Van Helsing' effort which had me actually laughing out-loud at some points it was so dire in its scenery chewing. Mind you a lot of that film was bad.

So, Gary. You can't go wrong with Oldman, he's great in pretty much anything.

Gary Oldman was excellent as Dracula and I actually really liked the movie despite Keanu Reeves' awful acting (Wynona wasn't much better either).

I mean seriously..... you could compare pretty much anyone to Oldman and come up short - the man's a legend! I mean if Tom Hiddleston ever played Dracula there'd be some competition, but not between these two. Oldman all the way baby!

I've never seen Van Helsing so I can't comment on that. If I were voting for people outside of those two I'd say Frank Langella.

Oh my God. Tom would be the ULTIMATE Dracula. Imagine it...he'd be pretty good at neck-biting. Ooooh. He was SO awesome in Only Lovers Left Alive. 😍

I actually haven't seen either of these movies. I don't watch much vampire stuff outside of Buffy. I don't like the Dracula on Buffy though. My guess is that Oldman is the better Dracula, just cause I've not heard of this other actor. I vote Gerard Butler! jk. lol.

TBH, I found Oldman overwrought (in fact, I thought the same of the whole film) and "spectacle" was the reason Coppola was criticised for the film - (he'd sold out - it was all style and no substance). That aside, out of the two I picked Oldman.

I couldn't get through the Coppola Dracula. Keanu Reeves may as well have been farting his lines, that's how seriously I took his performance. Was it a performance? Maybe modern art. Which is a shame, because he was obviously cast cos he was the hot ticket at the time, as was Ryder, but he does better in other things.
