Buffy easily. Angel is not a champion. There's nothing champion about wanting redemption, and that was his intentions with almost everything he did.
Is there anything wrong with wanting redemption though? He wants to be redeemed for his past wrongs which I would consider something positive.
As for champion, well if you say who saved the world most then Buffy, but Angel helped a lot. And he had to series less than Buffy did 😀

I see what you're saying but I don't think its as clear cut as that, and a discredit to Angel himself. He didn't just do it for himself, yes his actions led to his redemption and he knew that was the way to gain redemption but I genuinely think he wanted to help people in a champion-esque way.
In the same way you could say that Buffy's not a champion because she HAD to save the world etc. Really the Champion is Spike, even before getting his soul back he was still fighting demons and saving the world etc. Even if was just for puppies and Man Utd 🙂

Buffy could have easily walked away but she didn't. The reason Angel did it was for redemption Joss has said that many times. It does sort of discredit him because he did the things he did for HIS redemption. He's not really a champion at all. They just liked to use that word a lot in the show.
I don't think she could have easily walked away. She wouldn't have spent so much time moaning about having to the Slayer if she could have easily walked away! 😀
To be honest, even if I hear that 'Joss said, Joss said' it doesn't make me change my mind, he isn't the boss of me 😀
I also really don't agree that 'just used the word a lot', I think it has more meaning than just being a convenient word. Depends what you regard as being a champion as well though I suppose...Personally I think its about more than just saving the world.
Look at Faith. She didn't really do her Slayer duties did she?

Yes, he MIGHT, but as a writer he must also be aware of individual reader interpretation. If he was dead, he wouldn't be able to say ANYTHING about his characters or any episodes which is why I don't rely on what a writer to define a character for me.
I think Faith would have behaved very differently if she was the ONLY Slayer or had been there first like Buffy was. But that's all speculation.
In some way all the nominees for Champion are selfish. Buffy kept doing it in the hope that one day it would end and she could be 'normal', Angel did it to atone for his sins and Spike did it cos of Buffy, to get her to love him.
