Who was the true slayer?

Past to the future

You know we know so much about Buffy and the gang backgrounds but not a lot about Faith. We even got some background about Kendra for the brief time she was around. Faith was around for so long and know very little.

However we can speculate from what know. Can help to understand her actions.

I would think of Faith as coming from South Boston or Brooklyn New York. There was never any mention about her parents though perhaps her father was in the military. Her favorite phrase five by five is a military term. Perhaps she was very close to him than he was killed in action. She and her mother never very close which unusual for mother and daughter. Perhaps her mother drank a lot. Losing her father probably drove a yet bigger wedge from her mother.

Then she became a slayer and had no one to turn to until her watcher. For the first time since her father had someone. Also losing her father is why she treated men as nothing more than sexual pleasures. Although perhaps her relationship with her father was something else.

The relationship with the mayor was like a father daughter relationship. Something she had and lost or something she wanted.

I don't think Buffy had a choice...despite dying..and Kendra being called..they were both slayers. It's not exactly a job you can leave..lol
It was her, kendra, and faith's destiny to be a slayer..I don't really think you can escape that

I object! As I said, every slayer is a true slayer!

The question was, is there one true slayer.
And now there is not. Every slayer is a or the slayer.
There is no one true slayer, but one of many slayers.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion, sk8rj04.
And mine is that there is no one true slayer.

Depends on your point of view. Ultimately fate (or whoever it was passing around the power) would decide who the true slayer was meant to be, right up until Buffy. She was the one who messed the line up, after all. Coming back from the dead and all, very inconvenient! 😛

So then you had Kendra, the rightful heir to the slayer throne, yes? Well certainly the most recent but then Buffy was still alive and all, so surely she was still the true slayer. Kendra had recieved the power mistakenly. Or did she? She was certainly the active slayer, only she could pass on the power with her death, but is that enough to make you the true slayer?

Kendra dies and Faith is activated, accept Kendra was never really supposed to have the power so had no right to die and then activate Faith, y'know, or did she? Hmmmm!

Of course, then there was that whole second rebirth of Buffy thing which may well have made her the active slayer again due to the mystical way she was brought back from the dead. Jury is still out on that one. Either way neither Buffy nor Faith had to die because they just decided to activate all the potentials anyway, meaning that the problem just got a whole lot more complicated.

There are many points and arguments to consider in this. Buffy did die. Kendra did activate Faith. Faith never died but it would appear that Buffy may have been made the active slayer again. Willow did a honking great spell which may well have altered the fabric of the slayer line for the foreseeable future anyway.

Basically, the only certainty is that all the slayers now have the power and there are no potentials left to activate, regardless of how many of them might die. Therefore by the end of Chosen the only answer to who the true slayer is would be all of them, because the slayer line currently doesn't exist.

It's more of a slayer crowd these days! 😀

I think Faith is the true Slayer. For me she's still the one that holds the 'trigger' to activate another Slayer.

We know from Buffy's second death that no other slayer was called. The trigger has been passed on to Kendra and then Faith. The slayers who have been activated now have only been called upon via a spell, not the traditional method.

So for me, Faith is the true slayer.

Buffy has died at least four times (including alternate universes) so I think Faith was the true slayer. Even though she didn't act like a slayer for the majority of her days in Buffy & Angel, she was the latest chosen one before Willow used her magics.

Someone get that handbook

Yes it would have been Faith death that would have triggered another slayer. While preparing the potentials kept thinking the next slayer would be after Buffy.

Faith was important in the end. Shouldn't have pushed her away in the beginning making it so tempting for Faith to join up with the mayor. Should have done a better job including her.

Also Buffy had been making it up as went along. Too bad didn't find that slayer handbook. May be should have checked that bag of Robin mother.

I hate to be the smartass, but I believe as long as Joss's show is titled "BUFFY the Vampire Slayer", the point is moot. However, there are some interesting points on here concerning Faith, etc. We could wax philosophical on here for 2 more months and probably wouldn't get anywhere. But I guess that's what real fans do!

P.S. Maybe if "Slayerfest 98" had come off as intended, we'd know for sure!

Well it is likely Buffy was to do something other than slaying. As soon as she died the first time. The slayer line no longer included her from that point.

I believe that Faith was the true slayer, but not the true slayer...let me explain, she was the next one called after Kendra died, which makes her the slayer, the one girl, since Buffy did die whether it was 2 minutes or not. But I would never consider Faith as the true slayer, because Buffy stuck it out, was a role model and worked her buttttt off to take care of Sunnydale, the world, etc. Faith was too busy showing her pain by killing and hurting other ppl, including herself. If Faith could have worked a bit harder at not pushing ppl away, and stayed and worked at the hellmouth, or went to another hellmouth she would to me be the true slayer, since it was really her turn. Buffy worked too hard to have the title taken away from her, she knew what she had to do and she did it. Props to both slayers, but I choose the Buffster.

Well Buffy not perfect. She pushed people away. She ran off after killing Angel. Also was not a surprise the potentials and Dawn forced Buffy out of the house.

Well no one is perfect, and I think that is what Joss wanted to emphasize on his show. Look at Buffy she was the typical middle classed cute smart little blonde girl, but she was just as screwed up as any of the other characters..
on the outside she played the part of a self righteous leader..but on the inside she was just fighting to keep herself together.

The only reason BUFFY didn't turn into Faith was because she had a family..
People that cared about her..No one has said Buffy was perfect..she wasn't.

I really don't think Buffy or Faith was a true slayer, they both did quite a few things that were quite wrong for a slayer..faith killing a man..being evil buffy dealing with angel..etc..

I don't think there is a true slayer..that is like asking who is perfect

Isn't that more the ''best'' slayer, rather than the ''true'' slayer?

When Buffy died, she fell out of the slayer line, therefore Faith was the true slayer as only she could activate another with her death.

Well I have said before only difference between Faith and Buffy is that Buffy had her mother and friends. By defending Buffy by saying nobody is perfect. I can defend my faithie by saying the same no one is perfect.

Also it is wrong to label Faith a psycho killer. Dana a lot worse because of her kidnapping as a child and visions of past slayers. I doubt anyone be able to help Dana.

We know from Buffy's second death that no other slayer was called.
That could have been simply because whoever/whatever calls the next slayer up realized that there were already two and realized his/her/its mistake the first time. Also, what if there was another slayer called to duty after she died - not all of them instantly go to Sunnydale. There are plenty of other Hellmouths. *Shrug* Just a thought.

That is if was a mistake to call first Kendra than Faith. May be part of a plan. Also as for other hellmouths. If are than why would the shadow elders tell Buffy she is the hellmouth last guardian.

Maybe they meant that one? *Shrug* I mean, she went to the hellmouth in Cleveland in the alternate reality, afterall. Also, the shadow elders told Buffy she was the last hellmouth guardian, not Faith, right? =\
