Watching Angel hit Buffy in the defence of Faith made me think a little about who he would choose if he was given an ultimatum (sp?).

The obvious choice in my opinion would be Buffy, however when you consider episodes like Sanctuary, Orpheus and Salvage you have to wonder if it is such an obvious answer. I'm undecided right now...

(Note; I'm not sure if this thread is in the right place sorry)

Depends on the situation. At the time where he hit Buffy, he would have chosen Faith. Definately. She needed his help and thats what Angel does. Helps people. He knew Buffy was mad but Faith wanted help and it would probably be the last chance to save her after it went so wrong in season 3 of Buffy.

However in other situations at other times, he'd choose Buffy. But theres no way to say over all who he'd choose. It's too complicated.

I think Buffy too. She's the one he loves. Faith was about doing the right thing, and having a friend to lean on, not about love.

But the question wasnt about love. Or was it? In that case it was worded badly. Obviously Angel would choose Buffy. He never cared for Faith that way. He just wanted to save her.

If that was what was meant then there is an obvious answer. Those episodes mentioned wouldnt change anything. Faith is a friend. Thats all.

BUt given an ultimatum, I stand by what I said already. It alldepends on the situation.

Buffy, He'd be an idiot though. What you don't mention is that he hits her defending Faith after she hits him then TRIES to hit him again. If I were him, I'd chose FAITH hands down.

I say Buffy. But it seemed that he chose Faith in that one. Remember the episode in BTVS Season 7 where Faith and Buffy were kinda patrolling or just walking and talking about LA and Angel and Buffy says: "Will he be happy to hear from me" and Faith says: "Of course, why not?". It seemed to me that, at that time, Buffy wasn't so sure about Angel and herself anymore and wondered why and remembered the episode where he hits Buffy telling that LA is his city... I think that episode was written by a BANGEL hater... Anyways.

I'd say Buffy even if Angel seemed to be at Faith's side sometimes...

Interesting point, but personally, I think that Angel would not go for Buffy, but rather whoever it is, that he has to save... be it Faith, Connor, or somebody he doesn't know. Angel's the type of guy that would actually sacrifice it all for the right cause. Buffy is a selfish cause, the other person is a moral cause. In season 5, when he signs away the Shanshu-prophecy, he effectively makes the aforementioned choice between Buffy and doing the right thing... Buffy loses. That is not to say he doesn't love Buffy or anything. In fact, I think it's what Buffy herself would do too (the Gift).

I'm not actually sure. Like said before, it would probably depend on the situation. But then again, ultimatums never work very well in the Buffyverse, and he'd probably end up saving both of them. 🙂

Buffy man.. i mean he would choose her hands down (though i love faith) and dont think he would consider choosing faith...

Angel would most definitely choose Buffy... no matter the situation. If you remember, even after he hit Buffy in Faith's defence, he was in Sunnydale right away, seeking out closure for that action.

As much as I hate to admit it, Buffy always comes first when it comes to Angel.

Erm...if I was Angel, I would choose Faith. She's better for him in a lot of ways, I think - Buffy never seemed to REALLY grasp what Angel was about. At least, that's the feeling I get from the episodes I have seen so far. Faith and Angel seemed to connect on a more "primal" level and she was far more jaded than Buffy was and therefore could relate to Angel more.

However, I think I would've been happy with Buffy, Faith, OR Cordelia for Angel's true love.

I don't think so. Sanctuary proved that Angel once again was willing to sacrifice his own feelings for helping somebody in need. As he said to Buffy, it was about saving a soul and not about personal feelings. He went after her, because he was able to forgive Buffys immature and cruel behaviour and needed things between them be right again, even if he wasn't the one who had to apologize here.

I am convinced that Angel would always choose the one who needs his help, no matter what his personal feelings were. That's what his mission was about. And the people who worked for him understood that. I always found Wesley proved real strength and greatness in helping Angel save the girl that brutally tortured him only a day ago, which is more than we can say of Buffy.
