Who would you assume this singer is singing to?

I'm not sure how popular this song is and I could just Google the answer but I want to know who you would assume Ben is singing to - his girlfriend/boyfriend or Mum/Dad/parental figure.

Based on the lyrics it feels like he's singing to parents to me but equally he could be singing to his girlfriend.

Which would you assume?

Dad. Based on the lyric "You taught me how to be a man." Sons learn how to be men from their Dads.

To me it sounds like he's singing to his parents or a mentor who's helped him along the way.

I listened to the lyrics again just to be sure, and I was right he never said who he was singing to/ about. So maybe it is just a song,
maybe the person who wrote the lyrics didn't want to say as that would stop any sales of his lyrics. Maybe Ben Platt wrote the lyrics
and hoped people could refer to whoever they wanted to.
Either way the lyrics might be good but as a singer goes, jeez he hits those high notes well! If a well known star was to sing those
lyrics they would be asked and they'd say who the lyrics were about (90% of the time) but an unknown would need to state who
the lyrics were about if he/ she wanted to gain any recognition.

I think he was great at the high notes too really impressive I honestly wasn't sure if he was a popular artist or not but I haven't tried to see if it says anywhere who the song is about.
