Okay, you're back is against the wall, enemies are closing in, it doesn't look good. Who do you want watching your back, if you could pick anyone from Buffy, Angel or Firefly? If you're going down fighting, who is it with? Buffy? Spike or Angel? Mal or Jayne maybe? Someone else?

My pick is Angel. I think that the moments where he's staring down near-impossible odds, with the world against him, are pretty awesome. If I could pick one person to be at my side against the apocalypse, it's Angel.

Thats a hard one. Both buffy and angel are my obvious choices but if I had to pick just one I would say Buffy definitely

If I want to survive I'm choosing Faith or Angel since they seem indestructible. Buffy, bless her, dies at the drop of a hat 😀.

But if it's a back against the wall fight to the death time, I need to know that someone's got my back then I'm picking Xander. He is far from the best fighter and has no superpowers at all, but I know that when the chips are down, come hell or high water and any other cliched expression I can come up with for being in deep s**t, Xander will be there fighting just as hard, if not harder than anyone.

hehe what she ^ said :)
Tough one 😛

I would have to go with Angel or Dark Willow 😛 Although, as potent as a Dark Witch would be, would raise the issue of what happens after the fight is over.

I'd want Illyria on my team, followed closely by Angel. The two of them have a lot of fight in them and would be pretty hard to destroy.

Illyria is an awesome choice
Damn, do I have to pick one? Waah! 😛 I couldn't decide between Faith or Spike, but since we're picking one, Faith. It's ride or die with her.

Well, I haven't watched Firefly, so just picking from the Buffyverse...

Are we taking into consideration the character's loyalty and how far that character will watch your back? If not, then Illyria. We'd just stop time and walk away, or teleport, or portal jump. If so, I'd pick Willow. She can still be pretty powerful without going dark, and I think magic is the strongest weapon. Plus, teleportation with her.

For strength in fighting I'd have to say Faith but power wise I'd say Willow. I think she's powerful enough to create some huge explosion that gets rid of all the bad guys, leaving our team unharmed 🙂

Buffy, none of her friends ever died for supernatural reasons, she'd die before she'd let anything happen to me *puppyeyes*

Awww man!!! are we really doing the pick ONE (just one) thing. In that case it's definitely

BUFFY!!!!! Without a doubt!

But if I get a team....

Buffy, Angel, Spike, Faith, Connor, Wes, Illyria, Gwen, Gunn and Riley. 🙂

God, you people are all about winning, does friendship and loyalty mean nothing? 😀 OK, maybe I'm just getting anxious that I am the only person on Earth who would pick Xander 🙂

Hmm i think i would Definatly like Buffy to have my back because (do i need a reason) shes amazing and possibly spike..not because im a spuffy fan but because he would give his life for something worth it and i would like to think if i were in a situation where i needed one of these guys it would be worth it 🙂 Interesting thread by the way.

(ooh another thought maybe a witch either willow or giles will do they could sort out the problem without a fight hehe)

Well, I guess the easiest way is to choose Willow. She's probably the strongest person in the whole Whedonverse.

But I think I'm gonna go with River. She'd kick anybody's ass. A real fight seems cooler and more interesting to me than just using magic. So if I were to lose, I'd lose fighting an awesome fight with River Tam 😀

Oh Buffy fo sho! 🙂

But if i could choose two, i would say Buffy and Willow. Strength and magic = one safe jellybean.

First, my an definition of the term "having (or covering) someone's back." This is not simply someone to help in a fight, though they might be called upon to do that as well. Covering someone's back means that they are more concerned with that person's protection and well being than the actual fight. Anyone or anything that manages to get to you has to deal with them first.

Most definitely NOT either Buffy or Angel, if I was wanting someone to watch my back and, most importantly, follow my orders. Both are good leaders, but neither one is very good at doing what they're told, When things get really serious, the person who you count on to cover your back has to be relied on to do exactly that, not to try and second guess you or go off on their own tangent.

As for Faith, she tends to be impetuous, rushing headlong into whatever comes up, kicking and punching in all directions, relying on main force to get the job done. Someone whose job is covering your back has to be more concerned with that than actually getting into the fight itself.

Illyria is a hell god, almost certainly not used to following anyone else's orders, or holding back when the action starts. She would be a great general, or a real asset to anyone's fighting force, but couldn't be relied upon to be what amounts to a bodyguard.

Spike would be ideal for the job if he were as devoted and loyal to me as he was to Buffy, but he has one fatal flaw. He loves to fight. He couldn't be relied on to not go Viking berserker at the worst possible moment. Secondary to actually protecting you from attack from the rear, the person guarding your back has to be relied in to protect and get you out of harm's way if the worst happens and you do get injured. Spike just isn't the type to run away from a battle, even if his reason in diong so is to get his fallen leader to safety.

Connor? Maybe in another twenty or thirty years, if he gets enough experience and self discipline. Not now.

The person who I would pick to cover my back would have to be someone with a strong sense of duty, committed to following the orders of his leader without question. A reluctant warrior, at best, and someone who realizes that victory isn't always the prime goal. The person who fights and runs away, who will live to fight another day. Someone who might admire heroes, even envy them, but who has no real desire to be a dead hero when it's possible to be a live coward.

When the going gets rough, and the rough get going, Andrew's my man, all the way.

so we're the only two to whom loyalty and friendship means more than powers of ass-kickery. Maybe we're not so different after all :)
My first thought was Angel but on closer thought I think I might wanna Buffy on my side. She has a lot of fight in her that girl and season 6 not counted she really wants to live.
