The sith are the big bads in Star Wars...Like the Klingons...or the Nazis. Basically, what I am saying is that evil attends to attract evil. And as such, they tend to be concerned about one thing--helping him or herself to their own pie. As such, they destroy/doublecross/hate/plot against each other from within instead of destroying the outside enemy.
