Whole30

What, just giving up coffee for a month? Totally illogical.
For a start not all humans react the same to a product. The proof of that is why does a person have an allergy while another person might not.
For another point, what grade of coffee is spoken of or is every grade of coffee to be stopped.

I gave up coffee for a couple of months, it had no discernable effect. I smoked the same number of cigarettes, I slept the same number of hours, I exercised the same, the pain I get 24/7 stayed about the same, my balance didn't improve.
Will it affect some people, yes
How the brain reacts in different people is different.
So if the Whole30 helps you, that is good but it won't help everyone.

I don't drink coffee or wine, so I guess I'm okay then 😉

You are allowed coffee (not wine) - just no milk or sugar in it.

Mr. Pole: being allowed coffee is surprising!

Well they do suggest people give it up: http://whole9life.com/2011/01/the-coffee-manifesto/, or at least don't drink 15 cups a day, but a cup here and there is fine. They suggest that once or twice a year you go without caffeine for 30 days. It doesn't seem like anyone who drinks coffee actually gives it up though lol.

WHAT? How do you live woman!? What else is there!
I am glad you said that! I couldn't live without my coffee... oh wait, I don't drink coffee do I? But you asked me that question a long time ago and I said I guess, but honestly now after 9 months, yes, I do notice a huge difference.

A lot of my friends I train with did this and I tried a version of it. As B knows a good few years ago I started to suffer from allergies. I was not allergic to anything and then I started to get sensitive to lots of things and not just food related. I've had cats and dogs all my life and I started to get allergic to them. I can only be around them so long before I get itchy - which kills me, I love animals more than people.

I then started to have horrible issues with wheat, gluten, dairy and sulphites...sulphites being in wine!!! I would get IBS symptoms, rashes, food hangovers. Sometimes its better than others and I can tolerate some dairy but just this week I got the wrong oatcakes and looked pregnant, was throwing up all week and had migraines.

I had all the tests and they all came back negative yet I still have intolerances. I did part of the Whole 30 but I couldn't cope with the no grains as oats, quinoa and peanut butter are my life. I tend to control my diet but having a mostly vegan diet as I found I felt better when I didn't eat a lot of meat. Happy Herbivore is one of my favourite sites along with Engine2Diet. And yes I get enough protein...not sick of hearing that question!

This is happening to more and more people actually.

Happy Herbivore! Love it. And same here, quite tired of the "where do you get your protein" question
I did finish it, but there hasn't been an improvement to my hives aside from the improvement from being off my medication. I am going to continue with it after the reintroduction phase ends which I'm doing right now to see if I see any improvement, just for general health reasons. Reading the literature it seems like food additive allergies rarely are the cause of hives, but I think it makes more sense that it's a result of leaky gut, which can be helped by this way of eating. Also going to start some supplements, which I don't normally like to take, but to see if it helps that process. Also I've been avoiding high histamine foods but I might try cutting those out completely and seeing how that affects things.

Mr. Pole: I think that leaky gut thing could be the issue more than food. If you cut out all those 'problem' foods and you still have issues. I honestly hope you get it sorted.

That's what I figure, because if it was something I was eating it wouldn't be every single day.

Hey Faithy, in case you ever want some MORE protein, these are the bomb. 21g of protein in a little bag of crisps.

Except they have milk and whey in them......

People also kept saying to me that it could also be stress as well, apparently when females get older stress comes out in our stomachs. Obviously i'm not saying its all stress but the more we get worked up about it then the more your body reacts. You are doing the right thing with the eating (I don't want to say diet as I know it isn't that) because that will only help keep you stronger and healthy.

I hadn't heard of high histamine foods so had a little look, some set me off, wine champagne, bananas (occasionally). Others like tofu are my staples and don't impact me. I wonder if it depends on how processed they are.

As Mr Pole pointed out more and more people are having issues with food, is it because it is just far too processed and chemical filled? Growing up I hated veg though I ate fruit. Yes I had convenience foods, my parents tried to keep me from eating crap but I would always find a way. Any wonder I got to the size I did. My mum would laugh at how I went from no exercise and crap food to a fussy eater who gets antsy if I can't work out. What changed? I realised how crap it made me feel. Now I look at food like medicine and I only wished I did it sooner.

@Taake I love Lindsay's site, I did a guest blog post for her for a pantry challenge a few years ago now Rana's Pantry Challenge: How to Clean Out (and Eat Out of!) Your Pantry

My GP seems to think the same. She also mentioned that heartburn (acid reflux) is a massively rising health issue too.

That's awesome. I've done something similar myself and now I keep my pantry pretty clean! 🙂

This
switching to the mind set of only buying things when I run out, instead of just picking it up because I think i'll need it soon.

is something I find quite challenging though!

Funny you should mention that, a friend of mine suggested I look into acid reflux as she thinks I may be suffering whereas I tend to just blame the intolerances.
