Who's mentally the strongest?

We know that some people on the show are very strong physically. Buffy, of course, Angel and Spike who are vampires, and... is there someone else? I mean, besides Glory, I only count the main ones.

So thery're very strong physically. But who would you say is the strongest mentally?
 
Buffy is incredibly strong to come back from her depression and considering her situation and the burdens she's carried since she was 15 she must be incredibly mentally strong.

I also think Giles is strong to be the go to parental figure for 3 people who he's not even related to. Dealing with Buffy's death and him leaving despite not wanting to show that he was capable of being strong as well.

Dawn is as well I think,in a way. She lost her mother, father, sister and mother figure (many of whom within a short space of one another) and finding out she's not even a real person and yet, despite being irritating, she still seemed to become a normal girl in S7.

Angel.

I have no idea how he hasn't just crawled into the fetal position and died. Everything he has gone through, everything he has survived, everything he has done...I have no words for the mental strength, character and spirit that is needed for that. And he doesn't just survive, he gets back up and keeps trying.

This is essentially why I love his character so much. Can't stand up, will stand up.

I agree with [MENTION=7585]Kean[/MENTION]. Angel has shown amazing adaptation to situations skills. You really can't go back and forth from Hell (literal hell, and situations that are hellish) and still come back on your feet and keep fighting for justice.
 
hmmm lots and lots of good choices.....

Right now I'm gonna go with Lorne - growing up in world where he just didn't fit.... creating a safe place - a sanctuary and maintaining the peace within... and most especially, I think of the look he gives geo in "that old gang of mine".... after he hits him... that look - screams inner strength.
 
Xander. He had to fight against superpowers everyday, without owning any by himself. I can imagine that it is really crushing to see everybody growing with their skills just you as a "normal guy" keep always the same. Dawn was the key, Willow was the witch, Buffy was the Slayer, Tara was a witch, Anya was a demon, Giles was a watcher, Angel and Spike vampires, Oz was a werwolf. And Xander was Xander.

I am gonna have to go with Cordelia, her whole persona changed with her transition between the shows, and then also with the visions, the fact she is able to withstand the pain and sight of these obviously terrible things happen and still stay on track with protecting the innocent hits me as a very mentally strong trait.

On the other hand, I think that like [MENTION=7585]Kean[/MENTION] said Angels attitude to getting up from literal hell and still helping other people, putting them before him once again is very strong.

Glad to see this post, can make up for agreeing with you on him in the other thread... by saying "Hewwwwwll no!" 😉

For me, it's Tara. From the moment she overcame her original crippling shyness (I'd put "Family" down as the major turning point), she had a stability, groundedness, and wisdom I can only admire her for.

And Fred!! With the Pylea thing and all! Also she was for the only one to realise what Jasmine was.

Didnt Fred realize what Jasmine was because she accidently got her blood on her?
Buffy, hands down. You can see it in the way the rest of the group leans on her constantly, always assuming that she'll come through whatever is wrong, for herself and the world, even if they wouldn't be able to do it themselves. And she does.

Of course, all of that applies to Angel, too....hm.

I think Buffy definatly as she has to deal with being a slayer, doing school work, work, having to kill angel when it was needed took which took alot of mental strength, she died (twice) and looked after dawn after her mum had died who she found dead herself. she is constantly facing so many problems (i cant even list them all) yet she still manages. 🙂 good ol Buff
 
I'm going with Angel. His song was kidnapped by his worst enemy...and taken to a hell dimension. I don't understand how he got over that. I mean...how was he able to get out of bed and leave the hotel? I don't even have kids, but I tried to put myself in his shoes by pretending something like that happened to my 1 year old sister. If one of my good friends kidnapped my sister and practically dropped her in my arch nemesis' lap, I just wouldn't be able to deal! I feel like that was one of the worst things to happen to anyone in the verse, and he handled it pretty well.

Buffy might be stronger though...I mean she had to deal with a lot at a pretty young age. Angel has a lot of...life experience. I can't imagine having to deal with being a slayer, dying (twice), coming back and suffering from depression. Ugh.
