Who's smarter?

I would have to say Fred! Not just cause she is one of my favorite characters ever, but also because she was supose to be a very gifted scientist. Thats why she was sent to Pylea.

i don't want to but i'd say fred. i want to say that willows is simply smart in a different area but asfter high school and maybe a bit in s4 we see very little of the intelligentce she showed so frequently before. plus physics, fred is so good with hem. willow was more of an arts person. as an arts graduate i say u need to be smart to get it but i also think physists are smarter than me.

I'd say Fred. But Willow is a close freggin second. I wonder where Giles would be between the two...Bet I know where he'd LIKE to be...heh...uh...first...of course...I'm sure he'd want to be the smartest I mean. What...I'm not ALWAYS being a perv...I can be serious...

My money's on Fred. Willow's smart, and a computer natural, but Fred is a published physicist/ Mathematician chick.

I think Giles would be the smartest all around guy. Willow would be the smartest with magic and such, and Fred obviously in Sciences and Physics. But Giles is definitely the most well-rounded of the three!

I think in a Willow vs. Fred thing, its hard to decide...Fred is older and has more in the way of a formal education. Plus she had all them years not distracted by menacing other worldly evils to concentrate fully on her studies, whilst willow on the other hand had been distracted (even if its just a little) from school since 10th grade. I mean fighting off apocalypses has to have a negative effect on your GPA 😀

I would say Willow. She was just as equally brainy as Fred. However, Willow managed to develop something called "common sense" by the time BUFFY went off the air. This is something that Fred never managed to achieve.

Besides, Fred's knowledge has always been presented in an unrealistic manner. The ME writers had her knowledgeable of just about every science known to man. Including medical science, as shown in "Harm's Way". And yet, we were told that she mainly studied physics. Also, they couldn't make up their minds in late S3 on whether she knew about the physics of magic, or not.

Uh, Willow had more education than Fred. Fred's education was cut short during her first year in college, due to a trip to Pylea.

I don't think you get the title of physicist after completing one year toward a bachelor degree.

FRED
In the graduate physics program at UCLA?

I think they are obviously all bright in different ways of course.

Fred, as stated many times previously, is amazingly well with science and it just seems to come natural to her.

But Willow is more of the liberal arts (history, etc.) and the best all around with computers (Her hacking was pretty astounding.). And I believe she graduated with a 4.0 and got accepted to every college in the U.S, not to mention some in Europe (Oxford, aka Giles' land) and I believe she scored a 1580 (This is because I remember her complaining about a 780, so if she complained about the 780, wouldn't the other section be perfect? My assumption.) Not to mention her knowledge of magicks, since she is the most powerful witch on the planet!

Although you have Giles, who is probably the most well rounded of them. He attended what is probably the finest of schools in the world (Although Willow could have and UCLA is decent, they pale in comparison to ole Ox. Willow should have went somewhere better, and I wonder where Fred did her undergrad work at?). He can speak a plethora of languages, knows a lot abot history and demons and I bet he's probably not that bad at mathematics and science.

So Fred vs. Willow, Willow because we've seen that she can excel in all subjects, but I personally have only seen Fred excel in her main areas.

I daresay Wesley was the most well rounded of all

Are you referring to education only? Or are you also considering common sense and good judgment?

Willow was a SCIENCE MAJOR. Her specialties were computer technology, physics and electronics. She was no more a liberal arts student than Fred.

Actually I wasn't necessarily referring to Willow as someone who was majoring in a liberal arts major, just as a person who exceled in those subjects. Such as her time in high school and the non science related courses that she took at UC Sunnydale.

And I don't ever remembering BtVS referring to Willow's actual major, if you could provide the episode or quote, that would be great.

I agree with Slayer, The. She seems to be more interested in those areas of study. Though, she did enjoy mixing potions like a chemist pro.

Both Willow and Fred were science geeks.

Although with the creation of Fred, the female science geek became something of a cliche in Jossverse.
