Who's your favorite 'Big Bad'?

Season One was The Master

Season Two was Angelus, Spike and Dru

Season Three was The Mayor

Season Four was Adam and the Initiative

Season Five was Glory

Season Six was 'The Evil Troika' (aka Warren, Andrew and Jonathan) & Dark Willow

Season Seven was The First Evil

And if you're reading the comics:

Season Eight was Twilight

Season Nine was Simone Doffler & Severin


Out of all of these, my favorite (story wise) was Angelus. It was fascinating to see just how cruel and evil Angelus was and it gave us, the viewers a glimpse into the life of Angelus before he became Angel. The whole season was a roller coaster of emotions for both Buffy and the Scoobies, as well as for me.
And of course...Spike!

I also liked Glory. Just seeing someone stronger than Buffy, kicking and knocking her around like she was a rag doll was eye opening. I was like "Wait, what? No, she can't do that to Buffy! Buffy, get up and kick her butt!" And the whole twist with her transforming back and forth to Ben. It was unique and made for some interesting moments.

I never really pegged the Master as a real threat. I just felt like Buffy was going to kill him all along and never felt a sense of dread.

Dark Willow was hard for me to watch. It was like seeing your sister, who's this shy, innocent, loving and caring person all of a sudden become a murdering psychopathic person without remorse or empathy. It broke my heart to see her that way. But.....yellow crayon. 🙂

I like the story of Twilight in some ways and in others, I don't. Let's just leave it at that.

Doffler and Severin were just Faith rehashed again as different slayers.

So who's your favorite(s) and why?

I have a soft spot for The Master. I just love his look, his religious, prophecy spouting monologues, and his campiness. They just didn't use him right. But then I also love Angelus and the Mayor. I think the later Big Bads are just missing something that made the early ones good. In my opinion.
 
Although i didn't find the Mayor scary, I liked him. I think Harry Goener's portrayal was subtle and clever and witty, though a lot of this must have been in the writng. I loved his interaction with Faith, and his mind games with Buffy & Angel. And I truly believed he loved his wife, which added an extra dimension for me.
 
My Order:
Angelus- evil and loving it. Linked to the slayer.
The Mayor/Faith- evil and loving it but there was also that inter-dynamic that was humanised them both.
Dark Willow- could've had her rampaging a bit longer and had more of her doing evil things. I think having her kill Jonathan as well would've been braver than her just killing Warren. Nobody cared about Warren.
Spike/Drusilla- two of my favourite vampires at the height of their evil-ness. Plus the only bad guys to get away at the end. So they kinda win.
The Master- Lots of good potential, he had some good monologues and was fairly witty. But mostly he was all build-up to the one climax, so- limited pay-off.
Adam- dull but very smart. Scary-looking at least.
The Trio- I don't even think of them as Bad let alone Big. They're like chipped Spike in a Hawaian shirt.
Glory- irritating and stupid. It grates my cheese whenever she's on screen.
The First- re: talk, all talk. Caleb and the Turok-Han were threatening for a total of 6 episodes.

I think a good actor was let down by being underused.

Mine are based on entertainment value alone, when I say that I don't mean I think they were funny, but that they kept my interest and I found the dynamic for defeating them interesting.

Warren, he was bad news. Creepy, Human, so I felt it more than a supernatural big bad
Angel, it was personal, again, increases the feelies
Mayor was a very interesting personality, and very believable (except the snake bit) meaning I have known people who were so darn nice and good at their job and crazy rotten at the core
Glory, I thought she was funny and I adore her minions, plus a lot of neat things happened while they were trying to save Dawn
Master, he's an interesting character and well acted
First evil, I liked the "ghosts" talking to people and controlling people, but other that that entertainment value it was lame
Initiative, bored me out of my skull

How's that?

They both have calm and long-term master plans, unlike the impulsive Faith. Doffler manipulated everyone in a way far better than almost all big bads. Only Holland Manners can compete with her in terms of cunningness.

Also, Doffler's goal is to be better than Buffy while Severin's goal is to rewind time. Faith became evil just because she felt rejected and wanted somewhere to belong to.

And Faith really didn't even 'become evil' she always knew right from wrong. She appeared worried at times and questioned her decisions. She only went to the 'dark side' because she thought she had no other options.
 
My favourite villian is Angleus. But my favourite "human" villian is the mayor, because I fear him the way I would a human killer or a molester, because I didn't take him seriously as a demon 🙁
 
To me at her best I think Faith does represent a uncontrolable, vengeful, humanistic evil. its just that she doesn't rearch those heights often enough maybe. I think her partnership with the Mayor works best when she is a villain in S3, but when she is just making random appearances after that then her being solo makes sense.
 
Angelus and the Mayor are the best big bads by far, but I also like Adam.
 
They had one of the most promising concepts with Adam - too bad they couldn't pull it off. The idea of a war between demons and humans to generate body parts needed to make hybrid demon/human cyborgs was an excellent one, but they put too much emphasis in the wrong places and it only became known in episode 21.
 
My favorite Big Bad was either The Mayor/Faith or Glory. The Mayor and Faith had such an interesting father/daughter dynamic (albeit an evil father/daughter dynamic) that made it way more interesting for me than most other Big Bads. Plus, I loved how darn-diddly chipper The Mayor was, because to have an evil character who acts so happy and is obsessed with cleanliness that still commands a lot of power is just a great contrast. His subjects clearly feared him but he was just so cheerful that it made for a stand-out Big Bad. As for Glory, I liked her because I felt as if she was genuinely a danger to the members of the Scooby Gang. Some Big Bads (namely The Master, The Trio, Adam, and The First Evil) didn't seem like as much of a threat to the Scoobies, only killing or harming complete strangers occasionally, or else sending a minion to do their dirty work. While Glory did sometimes send her minions to take care of things, when she wanted someone dead or injured, she would attempt to do it herself. Also, I liked Glory because she really seemed like she could hurt one of the gang, and would without hesitation. Like when she mind-sucked Tara, I especially felt as if no one in the gang was safe, which made me more invested in the season. It makes for a more captivating season when I'm actually afraid that the Scoobies might get hurt or killed.
 
I like Glory, she is funny, strong, pretty hot and has really great quotes sometimes.
Like that one: "Funny. 'Cause I look around at this world you're so eager to be a part of, and all I see is six-billion lunatics looking for the fastest ride out. Who's not crazy? Look around. Everyone's drinking, smoking, shooting up, shooting each other, or just plain screwing their brains out 'cause they don't want 'em anymore. *I'm* crazy? Honey, I'm the original one-eyed chicklet in the kingdom of the blind. 'Cause at least I admit the world makes me nuts. ".
I heard that one, i felt kind of more comfortable being me. When i was younger my teachers told me and my parents, that i do not have fun in my life , because i do not like partying and do not drink or smoke. And i felt like a misfit and very insecure that time. Then i saw that line and even if it was a fictional character in a fictional world, i felt like, that my behaviour and attitudes can be viewed positively as well.
My second favourite villains would be Spike and Drusilla, Spike because there is so much depth in his character, he is romantic and capable of affection even when he is soulless. Drusilla, because she is creepy and crazy, which makes her fascinating.
The third villain whom i like would be Faith, because of her style and rebellious nature.
