I was wondering what it is about buffy/angel that has got you all addicted....Why are you a fan?
me...erm...
well,
i get totally sucked into the program, i lose track of time and what is reality...i feel like i am there with the characters and share their enotions...when someone dies like doyle in angel i cry so much its pathetic and then i realise how sucked in i am. my pulse races, all my emotions come out watching b/a....i cry, i pray, i miss it when i can't see it, i cry with happiness, i long for outcomes that may never happen, i lose my temper if someone dares to interupt my viewing, i can watch my box sets over and over without ever getting bored and get sucked into them with as much passion as i watched it the first time. so many aspects of b/a story lines have touched on my own life experiences and these give me food for thought and sometimes perspective on my own life...ok so am i sad? lol😛 😀
 
Nope hon, I am totally the same. It had me hooked from the first time I saw the first episode of Season 1. We watch and re-watch all the episodes without ever getting fed up. I laugh and cry at the funny and moving moments. I feel as though I have watched them all grow up!

I never, ever miss an episode, it really would have to be a matter of life or death for me to miss either Buffy or Angel. If someone comes to the door whilst either shows are on, I never answer it, and the phone goes unanswered as well.😀😀

Other people my age, that being 31, sometimes think I am sad to be this hooked about TV shows but heck, do I care? Nope, and I am the same with Charmed too. 😀

Buffy and Angel just have that certain quality, and never fail to entertain or surprise or shock me, it's like a roller coaster ride, and you take the highs and the lows, and enjoy every minute of it!

*thinks that they will send for the men in white coats soon...*
 
It was the title that interested me at first. I saw it advertised on Sky one and watched the first episode. After that i was hooked. I loved how they used demons and incorporated them as metaphors of the problems that we have to face. Xander reminded me of an early Chandler.

When Angel started of course i watched it because of the history surrounding the charachters, and when i saw Lindsey that was me hook line and sinker 😀
 
Good question. When I first saw it you could't get me away from the tv even if there was an earthquake.😀 It is so interesting because you know that it will never happen in real life and the characters are so real to me. In my class there are a bunch of Cordelia's ( pain in the *ss cordy from btvs) but unfortunately not an Angel or Spike🙄 . The storylines and the demons are great and there is lots of humor in it.
I've never missed an episode and the channels are always airing old buffy shows and I never get tired watching them.
 
i guess basically what i liked about it was that despite all the supernatural stuff going on it all seemed more realistic than most telly programs.
 
it was weird. i saw it advertised and i thought, that might be cool. but i didn't watch it for a while. then i watched a couple on and off.... maybe it was xander in speedo's that did it, lmao. but i just started watching, and so far i haven't stopped 😀

Well my whole family watched the first episode and I never really liked it as the whole way throuhg my mum was shouting from her room to my sisters asking what was going on and it distracted me and I never really thought of watching it again. My sis kept on wtaching it and one day I was looking through her tapes and I came across one saying'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' on it so I decided to watch it, it was the rest of series One and I was hooked in time to catch Season 2!!! I think most of the reason that I'm a fan is that I love the fantasy aspect of it but at the same time it deals with issues and handles them better than shows like 'Dawsons Creek' which are made to deal with those kind of issues.Also, it has a very likable cast, and all the characters are likeable. Also, it mixes drama with humour, suspense etc
 
It's a realistic program, and it's about a women who knows how to defend herself and get going even with all her problems
 
Well i was all geared up to watch the first episode on BBC 2, and i loved the show! It was a breath of fresh air.. and obviously i took to Angel straight away!🙂 Darla was written into the script... EVEN BETTER!!!
 
Because it's unique. It's different than anything else out there. It's such an ingenius show, and I'm so glad I'm a fan of it. I'm such a fan dork when it comes to sci-fi/supernatural shows, and this is definitely my biggest medium.
 
its purley becuase i can relate to the character not the supernatural bit of course but they explore deep issues like in earshot-the school shooting thing-they did it so well. also underage sex was planned well.
 
i started watching it from the 3rd season and the 4th season even havent arrived! but i read other seasons in buffyworld and i am despiretely trying to find the 1st or 2nd season on dvd or vhs (please e-mail me if you can help). i so hope that angel and buffy will get 2gether again. They belong together!!!!! guess i am a fan because of the b/a lovestory.......... ::crying::
 
and i thought i was the only one...
at first, i really didn't like buffy. if someone turned it on, i left. then i was sick for a week and i couldn't get up to leave so i had to watch it...and i fell in love. i've been hooked since then.
there's something about both shows that attracts me. i think it's the way that they deal with real-life situations while making it all sci-fi. there's always the funny moments, and the emotional moments. i cry with them, laugh with them, and just totally love them.
i think i need therapy...

It took me awhile to into Buffy. I don't know exactly what hooked me; the love, the characters, or the fact this was the start of that "Girls kick ass" thing, but whatever it was, I'm hooked now. I love the show. I love the relationships, the characters, the way Buffy slays a vamp, and finally, the smart plotlines. I love Buffy.
 
As one of the really OLD people on the board, I grew up watching Dark Shadows (for you young whipper snappers, that was a supernatural American soap opera a long time ago) with my mom.
I was also a big fan of shows like Bewitched and The Addams Family and The Munsters.
So I guess I'm automatically drawn to anything of a supernatural quality.

But the real hook about Buffy is the writing. The writers are able to hit every emotional nail squarely on the head. Every single time. They know exactly how to push our buttons to keep us watching from week to week.
The story lines are fresh, the situations (though improbable at times) feel very real and very intense and the characters are completely developed (something kinda rare on television these days). It's also really nice to see a powerful female role model on television.

The casting is superb. The chemistry between the actors isn't something that can be "acted" - it's real. We do care about these people.

Yes. I'm a fan. I'm a big giant dork of a fan and I have no trouble admitting it.
 
I got hooked in June 1999, when Sky One were showing Season Two.. the episode was "Surprise". I'd hurt my back and i was bored and skipping through the channels when a certain extremely gorgeous vampire-soon-about-to-lose-his-soul caught my attention. A couple of weeks later i was in the Lake District with my husband and i saw the first Watchers Guide in a book shop. I bought it, read it and fell in love.

I'm more of an Angel fan. I still watch Buffy though. I like the writing, the stories, the supernatural element and the mythology. But most of all i liked David Boreanaz 😉.

I've all three seasons of Angel on tape, the first two on DVD, and hope to get the third on DVD if it is released before Christmas as has been rumoured, i have seasons two and three of Buffy on DVD also. As i've got a couple of young children, i don't get time to watch any eps through the day, so i tend to watch a couple of eps of either show at night when they're in bed.

Plus, at 33, i'm one of the "older" fans, though i tend not to listen to any kind of criticism.

I love other shows like C.S.I, ER, stuff like that, but there's nothing i love more on TV than Buffy and Angel.. i can't wait til the new year for Sky to start showing the new seasons, i'm having severe withdrawal symptoms just waiting!
 
As one of the "oldsters", I guess I can relate most to what Sekhmet21 and Keenangel have said...
 
Someone asked the writer Tom Clancy why people bought his books. He simply replied, "because they're damn good books." The same good be said about Buffy. It's a damn good TV show. Of course, being a spin-off or continuation of that awful Movie, I was skeptically at first, but once they decided to play it serious and most important, intelligent, I got hooked. Plus, I have also being a being Vampire-fan...
 
buffy's a very interesting series. unlike other sci-fi/fantasy shows, this one is slightly dealing with the darker aspects of the world (vampires, demons, etc, etc) and i enjoy a female hero who can kick butt. i watched season 1 and then stopped (hehehe, i slacked off, the show moved time slots) and then picked up again in the season 5 finale. since then, i re-watched all of the episodes in buffy 😉 and now i am updated. as for angel, i only watched season 3 but it's pretty good too :: tu ::
 
It's the relationships that keep me watching. Just the real human emotion aspect is what I love the best. Seeing Seth got me started but from that point I just couldn't stop watching even after he left. There are episodes that still make me cry whenever I see them even though you know what happens they still get to me (mostly the Becomings and Hells Bells). You learn to really connect with the characters. I cried for Willow in Consequences and Innocence while mentally yelling at Xander. I cheered for Xander at the end of the Zeppo and just bawled during Hells Bells. The show is just that damn good.
