Why Connor?

So I'm rewatching season 4 and it could have been awesome if not for the ickiness that is Cordy/Connor. Why did Cordy choose Connor? Why not Gunn or Wes? or even Angel to impregnant herself?

Yes, apparently it was an impossible birth to make another one possible.

The whole reason Connor even existed was Jasmine manipulated most of the major events in Buffy and Angel to ensure Connor came into being. Like the last two posters mentioned, there was something about an impossible birth making another one possible. Something about Connor's genetic makeup made him the only one capable of creating the vessel.

I would like to ask Joss the same thing. But I'm going to pretend that Cordy/Jasmine and Connor fling never happened and that a spell made Cordy/Jasmine pregnant, because Cordy/Connor ruined season 4 for me.

Both. Jasmine set forth the events in motion that brought Darla back and The Host/Lorne to our dimension so Angel and Darla were directed to the Trials. After Darla earned 'new life' Jasmine made the conception of two vampires possible and she was the one who protected Connor when Darla was trying to terminate the fetus.
