Why did Angel drink Buffy?

In Graduation Day, Buffy tries to kill Faith to save Angel's life. But once the plan didn't work quiete well, she decided to give her own blood for Angel to drink, knowing it might kill her. Angel too knew it might kill her (unless he doesn't take it all). And at first he refused to bite her and cure himself, but after 3 punches in the face from Buffy, he gave up in what seemed like a rush thing to do. Again, he knew he's hurting Buffy and she might accidently get killed. He took a big risk with his love of his life to cure himself. What made him come to the conclusion that they both should take the risk? I understand Buffy's position in this, she loved him a lot and even when Sunnydale was all in danger, she decided to take the risk for her lover. But why Angel? (and ignore the fat that it ended well)
 
Well, the first thing that popped into my head is that he was sick, and not quite thinking straight. I think it was that combined with instinct that wasn't as well supressed as it usually is because of his illness. Besides, I'm glad he did it anyway...one of the sexiest scenes on the show.

He was almost dead, he was delusional (he thought Will&Oz were Buffy), and when he vamped out and Buffy pushed him to her neck, that's when his instincts kicked in. I think they just overpowered him. Then, we see him sort of 'snap back into reality' and he stopped himself before it was too late.

I agree with all the things posted before me. The line that pops into my mind is this from Amends said by Angel: "Because I wanted to! Because I want you so badly! I want to take comfort in you, and I know it'll cost me my soul, and a part of me doesn't care". Let alone the part strictly about sex and the soul this shows that Angel's instincts are all there, bottled up. That combined with grave sickness...he just gave in but I'm sure that if he had been well and not sick, he would have never put Buffy's like at risk.
 
Also in Amends The First says to Angel just before he goes outside just before the sun comes up. "Someday you'll drink her."

Yep..it's one spooky foreshadowing..Buffy's filled with it. It's one of the things I loved most about it.
He didn't knew what's he doing. He didn't know how to recognize her, thought Will and Oz are Buffy. He was weak, he was dying, and Buffy made a decission to save him. The thing is, Buffy knew she can die, but she learned how to trust Angel, and she trusted him, and she belived he'll stop in time.

Why Angel? Faith wanted to hurt Buffy, and the best way to hurt Buffy is by hurting Angel, and Faith knew that.

Others knew that as well. Good thing Angel wasn't human or he would have been a bigger target for Buffy's enemies.
It was how Faith gets back at Buffy for what she did in Enemies. That is why in Earshot Angel is following Buffy around in case Faith tries to do something else.
 
I think it comes down to it needing to be done. He could only have blood from a slayer, so it seemed so obvious. I think she would do it for anyone in that group if that is what had to be done.
 
Besides, why wouldn't he drink Buffy? Have you ever drank Buffy? That stuff is delicious!

Oh, wait, we're talking about a person's blood? Never mind, I thought you guys were referring to the obscure (now out of production) Buffy Beer from South Africa. Okay, it was a rare beer and I can see where maybe people wouldn't have been talking about it on a Buffy the Vampire Slayer message board, but I thought maybe someone stumbled upon this board by mistake after searching Buffy Beer. That's how I discovered the site, and I'm a pretty normal guy.

Like others have said, he was sick, incredibly confused and just plain not thinking straight. I really do like this scene because, as well as being very sexy, it acknowledges the demon inside of Angel. As much as Buffy would like to tell herself it's not true, he's still an animal deep down.

Something else. When Angel drinks Buffy's blood here, just the taste of it drives him crazy. In "Sleeper" just the smallest like of Buffy's blood brings Spike back to himself. Just an observation 🙂
