Why did Buffy come back from the dead

Yes, Angel couldn't perform CPR because he *couldn't* breathe, so Xander gave it to her, thus reviving her.

Buffy has come back from the dead so many times; she died in "The Wish", in "Prophecy Girl", in "Seeing Red" and of course, in "The Gift." Her friends have always brought her back in some way.

It's kinda cool that all of the core crew have bought Buffy back. Giles in The Wish, Xander in Prophecy Girl and Willow in Seeing Red.

Willow actually brought her back twice, lol. Becoming PT. 1
In Reptile Boy (I think) Buffy says, "I hate it when they drown me". That's a reference back to this episode.

After Xander revives her, Buffy claims to feel different, stronger. It's never explained why exactly this should be.

In being revived, she defied the profecy. It may on more mystical than that - she was sixteen, she didn't want to die. Not dying was a pretty big deal.

I always wondered why they said she technically died. I mean, she drowned but she was brought back. Does that count as dying? She definitely wouldn't have died from the Master though, I mean he barely drank any of her blood.

On what I guess is a tangent, I think Willow's scythe spell should have worked by momentarily killing and then reviving every potential. It would have been an explanation at least, which we certainly didn't get in 'Chosen' (something about the 'essence' of the scythe if I can recall), and it would have had precedence, going right back to this episode.

I only think that during the 1st season and part of the 2nd producers didn't think a lot about the consequences of what they did, becuase Buffyverse wasn't totally defined then, while in the following seasons everything eas well-pondered, and seen as something to develope in the future, in many different ways.

For the sake of the limitations of filming, it was inferred that she was dead; as with the other cases.
But if you look at each case, with proper reasoning, there was not proof that she died in any of the situations.
When B was 'meant' to have drowned. Not breathing or having a pulse does not mean actual death. It is brain dead that counts, more than those situations. Look at how long the Master was drinking her blood; not long enough to kill her and as a comparison how long did Angel drink from B? And she didn't die then.
Then there's the CPR that Xander gave B. I have done CPR and what Xander did was a joke. Did B drown? judging from the amount of water that came from her, no. If it was several litres of water, different story.
But as I stated, for the limitations of filming, it was inferred that she had died.
For the sake of what was happening, B being a vampire slayer and not a normal human, extra strength, rapid healing etc. It could/ should be taken she was from 'him up there'
(that puts her in the superhero catagory).
For someone to stop the Master gaining his foothold (an agent of the first evil) on the earth, divine intervention was needed. So B was brought back to life.

You can drown on a teaspoon of water, actually. It just has to stop your breathing long enough for your heart to stop.
If she hadn't technically died, we wouldn't have Kendra, and then later, Faith. So I think they did think about the storyline.

Well, the answer is somewhat obvious but I can see what made you ask the question.

But tell me this...would the series have been able to continue without 'Buffy'? So that is a strong reason why she was revived. Not to mention, Angel and Xander found her. They were the two people who could never let her die and so Xander performed CPR and brought her back to life. Mostly because Angel 'couldn't' breathe. Note that he said he had no breath while panting big time. 😛. But whatever.

well, spike smokes sigarettes....
i think angel didn't like buffy at all😀
(so his excuse of buffy letting dying whas he could not breathe😱)

but one reason i would believe of this is, something that's activate other potential slayers is there is some sort of conexion with a mystical something.
i believe every potential and chosen one is conected with each other.
when ''it'' thats activate slayers after the old dies, and lost some sort of connexion. then there wil be a new slayer.

the better question could be, what of who activates a slayer...

Well, she didn't die because the show is called BUFFY the Vampire Slayer. If it had been just the Slayer or sth like that, then she could have died happily (err, or not so happily) and that would have been it.
Although I know that there are actually good and way better explanations I'm gonna stick with this one. Oooh, plus when S5 ended and she died (like really died in a bunch-of-months-in-a-grave-way), it was thought that Buffy wouldn't get renewed, so there you have it!

They wanted to show how important friends could be and they wantet to create a second season which doesn't work without Buffy...

I don't really understand the question. If they were going to continue the show, they couldn't really kill of the main character. And as Xander did CPR, she came back to life.
