OK I just got series 4 pt 2 boxset of angel for £4 on ebay and in the episode where jasmine is born skip tells the fang gang that jasmine was responsible for them being in the gang... i.e. opening the wrong book, sleepig with the enemy, Gunns sister, leaving pylea etc but what i dont get is why Jasmine needed Gunn, wesley, fred and lorne i mean surely all they where throughout series 4 was a thorn in her side. I mean wesley had the know-how, fred was a gnius and was the first one to see the real jasmine, lorne read cordelia and could have done again and ruined her plan, they all seem like unneeded risks to me. I mean the only useful one i can see is wesley because he was responsible for angels desouling but even then if it was just angel and connor then i'm sure she could have made it so they desouled angel because she also had them both wrapped round her little thing. Wesley was also useful because its hus fault connor came to an age where he could have babies when he was only a few years old however after that he wasn't needed so why not just get rid of him or ensure he isn't welcomed back into the fold. Those are my questions can you help me find answers lol

I suppose its one of those things whereby if Fred, Wesley and Gunn weren't around circumstances would have been different. For one if Wes wasn't around he wouldn't have kidnapped Connor, so Connor wouldn't have grown up so quickly and slept with Cordy, meaning no Jasmine.

Similarly, if Wes, Gunn and Fred hadn't joined the Fang Gang then when Doyle died it would be just Cordy and Angel. Preusming the events of S2 would have still gone through Angel would have turned evil(ish) and Cordy would be left by herself, so she would probably just give up and go back to acting. Which would again result in no Jasmine.

Good Thinking!
Pretty much what Xander said. Jasmine had been one of the Powers That Be. The way they work is to control destiny by manipulation of humanity and events. Every single outcome they desire has to be brought about by a confluence of different events and decisions.

In this case Jasmine wanted to be born into a human form. To do this she needed to create the correct circumstances in which to have that form created in the first place. These events culminated in her conception when she finally manipulated Cordy and Connor into getting together but prior to that she had to ensure that those two were in the right place and the right time to do so.

Think about all the different decisions that led to Cordy and Connor being able to sleep together that night. Had Wesley not played his role and given Connor to Holtz then Connor would still be a baby. Had Had Lorne not given Angel the advice he did concerning trying to save Darla in The Trial then Connor could never have been born in the first place. Had Cordy not met Angel at that party then she would never have ended up with the visions and been forced to become part demon, so on and so on. The roles of the likes of Gunn, Fred, Doyle, Lilah and the rest who were pawns in the grand scheme of Jasmine were less obvious but they were all integral to keeping the central players on the right path, where Jasmine needed them to be. All of the gang played their own roles in making the birth of Jasmine possible, they just didn't know that there was a larger plan at work.
