Hey.This might be a dumb question, but when Buffy died kendra came and when she died faith came.So there was always a slayer along the lines....But Buffy kept slaying, even though she didnt have to!I might have missed something, maybe people knew she came back to life so they stopped calling the slayers...(if it is people) but i still dont get it...Sorry if i missed something big, im weird like that...So i was just wondering why she kept slaying...

Well, first she didn't know about Kendra but really she felt that responsability was hers while she was living on the Hellmouth I guess. Then we all know how she was considering steping down for Faith to take over but you know how the Faith thing ended with her going all bad. She really never had a good chance to quit. Or at least to feel good about it. It's in her blood after all...

I also think that she could have quit and left it all to Kendra or Faith. But Buffy feels that responsibility. She knows she has to fight demons so she does, even though there are others, who do so as well.

I think she did want to quit, but deep deep down, she knew she couldnt.
I dont think she likes to admit it, but Buffy does like Slaying, its part of who she is...

yeah i think it w as hard for buff to quit, to leave it behind, cos it's in her blood! but she did have the chance when kendra first arrived!

I dont think she'd leave it behind she said in one ep that she knew what went bump in the night and she said she couldnt not pretend she didnt know. I think deep down she liked slaying like The Male Slayer said its part of who she is.

I never understood why Buffy continued her Slayer duties, especially after both Kendra and Faith became Slayers. It didn't make sense.

I can only guess she had been so brainwashed about doing "her duty" that she felt she had no other choice. What a damn shame!

If you watch the episode Helpless in season 3 she says why she can't give up slaying.

Buffy: 'I guess. But what if I can't? I've seen too much. I know what goes bump in the night. Not being able to fight it... What if I just hide under my bed, all scared and helpless? Or what if I just become pathetic? Hanging out at the old Slayer's home, talking people's ears off about my glory days, showing them Mr. Pointy, the stake I had bronzed.'

Thats a good point Jules, but really she didnt have to slay AT ALL!! If she didnt really want to slay she could have said back in season 1, No thanx you can ask someone else, but it makes her feel guilty that there are vamps wandering about in sunnydale and she lets people get bitten.

Buffy would have felt that she had to keep going...i mean the Earth still needed to be rid of evil and just because in the prophecy there was only one slayer doesnt mean that 2 slayers wouldnt work twice aswell.

its a destiny
you cant change destiny, thats pretty much the whole point

its not like being chosen to be an all powerful butt kicking 'one girl in all the world' is about not wanting to take on the responsibilty and say yeh i could do that, its about the fact that she cant not do it because thats like saying to the world, beh, i dont care about you

plus, she likes being in charge 🙂

Buffy and Angel-helpless:

Buffy: Angel, what if I have lost my power?

Angel: You lived a long time without it. You can do it again.

Buffy: I guess. But what if I can't? I've seen too much. I know what
goes bump in the night. Not being able to fight it... What if I just
hide under my bed, all scared and helpless? Or what if I just become
pathetic? Hanging out at the old Slayer's home, talking people's ears
off about my glory days, showing them Mr. Pointy, the stake I had
bronzed.

Angel: Buffy, you could never be helpless or boring, not even if you
tried.

Buffy raises her eyebrows and gets up.

Buffy: Don't be so sure.

She steps over to a table.

Buffy: Before I was the Slayer, I was... (leans on the table) Well, I,
I don't wanna say shallow, but... Let's say a certain person, who will
remain nameless, we'll just call her Spordelia, looked like a classical
philosopher next to me. Angel, if I'm not the Slayer, what do I do? What
do I have to offer? Why would you like me?

Angel: (quietly) I saw you before you became the Slayer.

great example to support what you think
Well, she wasn't the official slayer, but she still has the slayer junk and szhe felt since she had the power and nobody else did she would feel guilty if she just let people die...and faith wasnt exactly the best slayer...

I agreeit was in her, it was a part of her..she just couldn't stop it+plus she got used to her strenght and night lifestyle...

Just because she died, doesn't mean she's not the slayer anymore. Even with the hundreds of other girls walking around now, it'll still itch. I dunno, but she probably has some incredible urge to do good... one must have to last as long as she has.

think of it like this...your the slayer, you die and another is called.you are revived. you know the other slayer can take over if need be, but you have the power and you know of the vampire world. Wouldn't you feel guilty if you didn't help?
