Question Why did Spike not go to Buffy?

I think Joss wanted to show and prove that Spike didn't need Buffy around to be a hero. Before, he'd done good things out of acts of love for either Drusilla or Buffy. However, I think Spike now evolved into this person who realized that he didn't have to live without Buffy to be a good person. I think he wants her to live her life, no matter how much pain it causes him. The fact that he's able to be a hero and a Champion, Buffy's Champion, without her there, really proves that he's his own person, not just being there for his lover's beck and call. Buffy will always be a part of him and he will always love her the most out of everyone, and vice versa, but really, I think it's the simple fact that Spike is a hero and Champion now, and that he is proving this and himself by doing selfless acts that aren't out of love.

Thank you very much! Hope you enjoy it. 🙂
First, I have to say....NICE banner! I absolutely love it.

I tried to start this convo on the Addicted to Angel group: Incompatible Browser | Facebook on Facebook...for some reason, no one was really interested.

Yet, it's someething that's always bothered me. Also, why didn't anyone tell her Spike was alive?

sted.

I think it's 'cause of his request to Andrew. Also, a lot of those girls on the mission probably didn't really know that much about Spike or Andrew told them to keep their mouths shut. I think Giles probably knows but Andrew's probably told him of Spike's request or (and I think this is right) Giles just feels that it's better for Buffy to not know.

Simple answer? AtS needed Spike. He was a popular character and a condition to of the network to take on other show for a 5th season. They couldn't let him leave and join Buffy's fight. So they had to make up some lame excuse to why Spike would want to stay in L.A.

If anyone is interested, we've been having a similer conversation on the Addicted to Angel application on Facebook, here.

Self-promotion, eh? 😉

I think the answer is really that a lot of people kept on saying that Spike only did things out of love for Drusilla and Buffy. I think Joss really wanted to show us how far Spike would be maturing in Angel and showing that Spike was a different person and fully worthy of being a champion and a hero. Now he does things for the sake of doing it, not because of Buffy and being her lapdog.

Maybe Spike never believed he was good enough for Buffy, and that he would always be second best to Angel. Weren't some of his last words to Buffy (after she tells him she loves him) " no you don't .. but thank you for saying it" Also, maybe Spike believed that this was the only way he could prove to Buffy that the love he felt was worth giving his all too.

Also, if there's anything Spike has a lot of its Pride. Maybe he was telling the truth when he said he wanted Buffy to remember him as a hero, as saving the world. Not as ressurected with a uncertain purpose in life.

This is true as well, although I think as the season goes on it becomes one of the lesser reasons. He has a purpose now that isn't Buffy, and the people on Angel's team actually care about him whereas with the Scoobies, the only ones I saw ever treating Spike kindly was Tara and Willow. I think Spike enjoyed the sense of family that he got from them.

I agree. I mean initally, when he first appears :)
I agree with a lot of the reasons out there as to why he didn't go to her. In my opinion there's one major factor... and that is ANGEL and Buffy were meant to be together. (It's just my opinion!!!) I love Spike, don't get me wrong but him and Buffy were something... when love needed to help save the world. Spike played that part because Angel couldn't. I'm happy that they left Spike to be his own hero. Although, I would not have been against Buffy actually showing up at the end of Angel (and the end of the screen version of the Buffyverse!!)

Nah, Buffy and Angel aren't meant to be together. Cordy/Angel didn't happen just so that it could be disregarded by Bangel fans who keep on chanting that they belong together.
