Still placing the two people who can't fight together is moronic!! Buffy should be ashamed of herself.
Of course, and I've said this on several occasions before, taking a couple of dozen girls down into the hellmouth to face what Buffy knew beforehand was an army of hundreds if not thousands of uber-vamps isn't exactly a stroke of genius now, is it? Granted, Spike was wearing the magic pendant, but Angel had said that the source that had given it to him was "undependable, to say the least," and that he really had no idea just what exactly that it was supposed to do. For all she knew, it was just a piece of gaudy jewelry meant to lure the defenders into a clever trap.
Given the way things turned out, the whole battle was, as Giles said, "bloody genius," but it could just as well have been a total disaster, effectively accomplishing no more than fulfilling the First Evil's plan to effectively destroy the Slayer line. (I know, all those Slayers all over the world were activated at the same time, but with no explanation as to just where their newfound powers had come from, and no way of uniting under some form of leadership, they would have been easy pickings for the Bringers and any other allies/minions the First might have lurking about somewhere.
Given the facts as Buffy knew them, the whole strategy was purely suicidal on Buffy's part, and it took a miracle of the highest magnitude for it NOT to turn out exactly as that: suicide.
Given all of that, teaming Andrew and Anya might have been one of the more intelligent things done in the entire battle. They were at least rudimentary friends, worked fairly well together, and were placed in a position where they, like the other two teams, would face relatively small opposition compared to the overwhelming odds faced Buffy's the main force.
