Why didn't the Master drink from Buffy properly?

Here's a random thought on Prophecy Girl. The Master had built up this impression about defeating the Slayer once and for all etc. So when he does drink from her I assumed he'd drink all of her blood. I mean I thought if a vampire would ever get the chance to drain a Slayer they'd grab that chance and drain all of her blood. And also then the Master could make sure she couldn't survive, instead he drains a little from her and lets her fall into the water? 😕

Just a thought, but I know obviously Buffy would have to survive to carry on the show. 🙂
 
Maybe he just wanted to get out of that cave as soon as possible rather than stick around to finish the job. After being stuck down there so long he'd probably want to get out as soon as he was able to...?

That's my best theory, anyway.

Yeah I was always surprised, I thought he would drink much more, at least as much as Angel in season 3. But no, that was just a bite, a tease, not even enough to be Slayered-drunk. When I watch this scene, I always think "That's just it?"
 
That's what I thought🙂 We saw how Spike and Dru reacted to the Slayer's blood from the Boxer Rebellion, after he killed her. Slayer's blood has to be highly desirable right for vampires? I guess it was just easier for Joss to keep Buffy alive. 🙂

Then again Spike seemed fairly blasé about the appeal of Slayer's blood when killing Nikki Wood. Perhaps the Master too had had Slayer blood before and found little appeal?

I think though that:
A. it's for the sake of Buffy being able to survive and thus the show.
B. The Master's been trapped underground for quite some time and he's eager to get up and out and raise his hellmouthy pet 🙂

Would we as the fans been satisfied with anything less? 🙂 It's the closest to Bangel sex they (& we) can get (until IWRY of course, which, oops! didn't really happen).

But overall I think the way vamps drink in Buffy is not consistent. I mean, shouldn't at least take a few minutes to drain a person of blood? Some of them take one quick drink and the victim is dead. Others seem to feed for quite awhile. Yeah, it kinda bugs me lol!

IWRY happened, it was just erased from everyone else's timelines.
Wait a minute... I have to watch this season again to remember something I should have known all these years, but.... Wasn't the Slayer's blood part of the Master's getting out of that place? In "The Harvest" he needed Luke to drink blood for him, to give him power or access out or something that I can't really remember right now. But in "Prophecy Girl" he didn't need his (already dead) vessel. He just needed Buffy's blood, then it has magically freed him. Am I wrong? I can't really remember right now.
If it's like what I said, then The Master only needed some of Buffy's blood and not all of it. Maybe that was his intention, and not enjoying warm smooth Slayer blood.

Plus, the Master doesn't strike me as one for sloppy seconds. 🙂
 
Either the Master has perfected blood sucking to an art over the centuries he's been alive or Joss still wasn't sure on how the blood sucking thing should work. Remember in one of the season 1 episodes one of the vampires hands made it through the Summers' threshold? It was never repeated so I think the Joss was just perfecting what vampires can and can't do in his world.

Yup I agree 🙂

Perhaps the Master being a really old vampire only needed a little blood rather then say Spike, when he killed Nikki and the chinese slayer, he was relatively a 'young' vampire (compared to the Master) who craved a lot of blood? I guess the Master was just eager to get out and didn't bother draining all of Buffy's blood.
 
We seen in The Wish that the master seemed almost tired of the whole feeding process. he wanted mass produced blood and couldn't feed on a girl because she kept looking at him. I think he's more about power and his place in the vampire hierarchy than an actual hunt and kill kinda vamp. He took what he needed to get free, and set off to rule over Sunnydale. Buffy got the job done, then she was just tossed aside.

That's an excellent point! I never connected the two before, but I'd be tempted to say that's the canon answer.

Personally, I've caught the new US Being Human and my main criticism is that they overdo the blood thing to the point that it's really just gross--it seems like smeared gallons appear in every episode.

That and what Britt said both make a lot of sense. That he wouldn't want to drink her blood, and that it was somewhat of an insult to her. Thing is, how did he know she was dead? ("You're dead!" "Yeah, but I'm still pretty.") He didn't check to see if she had stopped breathing in the little pond thing she landed in.

The series starts with The Master's minions each going out and collecting bodies for old Punch-Face to drink, but after Buffy interferes, he only gets Jesse. He uses Jesse as bait in an attempt to trap Buffy, but she gets away. So plan C is The Harvest, the minions trap everyone in the Bronze and Luke acting as the Vessel has an all-you-can-drink buffet. Clearly he needs to drink a lot of blood on behalf of the Master, but when Buffy shows up he says he just needs hers.
 
I think Mr. Master got a little too cocky about the prophesy. He just needed a taste of her blood to be strong enough to free himself, so he didn't need to drain her. He wasn't worried about whether she was dead because the prophecy said she would die.

Also, I think vamps can decide how quickly to drain a human - they could do it slowly and painfully, or quickly and be done. Just depends on if they're in a hurry or not. 🙂
