Why didn't the police go looking for them?

Faith and Buffy break into a weapon store and make a lot of pretty mess. The police show up and arrest the two Slayers. But they get away.

Now, obviously Buffy and Faith committed a crime, according to the Californian law. So why didn't the police re-arrest them? They could have tracked them down easily, using the resources and whatever the police are using. They just didn't care? Was that not big enough to bother? Or maybe it has something to do with them being Slayers, and maybe the Mayor gave an order?

Probably, when the arresting officers turned in their report, their superiors told them that the Mayor had a special policy concerning certain goings on in and around Sunnydale, and this was one of those cases that fell into that category. The very last thing that Wilkins wanted at that time was any sort of action that might jeopardize the plans that he had been waiting a century and a half, at least, to put into motion.

I assume with everything going on with the Mayor's assistant, Buffy and Faith were put on the back burner, so to speak, while the police worked that case. Little did they know...

I agree that the Mayor probably had something to do with it

Well besides it being a show do you think the police wanted to report being beat by two teenage girls? and i'm not sure its that easy to identify them...fingerprints don't mean much without them on record already and especially since it was a place that i'm sure has multiple prints on their for sale weapons... and how easy is it to pinpoint teenage white girls in a suburban California when the witnesses (cops) only seen them at night and were in a car crash that could of possibly altered their judgement/memory ....btw its Sunnydale PD not CSI: NY

Maybe the to are just two little fish in Sunnydale I mean there murder is normal, it's the hellmouth!

I'm guessing the police had no idea who they were, and Sunnydale isn't really as small as they make it out to be. They may have been looking for them, but it would take awhile to find them. I doubt either was carrying identification when they were arrested.

Not to mention, the policemen were unconscious for awhile, so it might have taken them some time to get up and moving. Maybe they forgot what they looked like, etc. Or the mayor may have intervened.

I think that in reality the poice would track them down, but for the purposes of a tv show and entertainment the writers didnt bother with a little thing like that
