What are points, and what is the point of having a number that doesn't change? Is it all a hypnotic suggestion?

Those are the points that are displayed under your 'likes' right? I'm not sure what they are, but I know they do change. I once noticed mine at 26, then 42ish and now they are at 63.
All I know is that they changed once when I earned a trophy, but they've apparently changed without as well...I have no idea how they got to 63. I've not recently been notified that I've earned a trophy.
