Why Do People Hate Angel?

I opened this thread as a counter to the "Why People Hate Spike" thread in the James Marsters section.

Now, I like BOTH the characters of Spike and Angel equally, and both have their good and bad points.

What I don't understand is why a lot of people on these boards think that Angel's character is boring and has no depth at all? To me that notion is ridiculous. There is plenty of meat between the bread there.
So what if Angel is more laid back than Spike? I don't beleive that it makes Angel any less interesting.

I'd like to know what people have to say about this.

And please, none of this "Spike is cuter" or "hotter" or "has better hair" stuff. The reasons need to go beyond the cosmetic aspects.
 
i love angel...he's character is way more interesting than spike's imo...i'm not talking about who's hotter.
david's character has a lot of mistery.there's still a lot about him that we dont know yet.spike is cool,so what?.when he was human was the most boring guy in the whole world,nobody says anything about that...i only hear about 'spike's cool leather coat'.
angel is not boring,he's brooding,what's wrong with that?
 
Angel is so much better than Spike (in any posibble way).His character is deeper,I just love him brooding....He made more touhg decisions than Spike and I think his portray of Angel/Angelus is more comlex than a blond vamp
 
Angel is really broody and quiet and mature. Who likes that? I do.
 
I love angel because his character is amazing i mean the way David Boreanaz portrays Angel is awesome with the brooding and the depth of the character not to mention how he went from a younger less mature character to an older mature wiser character... dont know if that makes since but for me it does...
 
I've tried to avoid these threads anymore because it tends to turn heated, but after being here this long I have learned a few things about posting on these topics...I have been very defensive of Spike and said things about Angel I hate that I said because I actually DO like the guy. For me he is not as interesting as Spike is but that really doesn't make him a bad character. They are two different types on two completely different sides of the spectrum and people are bound to favor one extreme or the other. But steping away from any personal feelings for one character and droping the defenses I have to say that in all honesty Angel is pretty damn cool and I think he has a lot to work with. GO ANGEL! I just don't believe he is any better...OR WORSE...than Spike. Just different. His brooding is kinda sexy and his will is great and he makes for a great champion. He's a strong character and I think he has definately come a long way. I respect the things he goes through and the desicions he has make. And I'm glad I'm saying this now before I see next weeks all new episode! 😛 😉 But really, Angel rocks. If he didn't I wouldn't have been watching his show for the past 4 years...
 
I like Angel, sometimes he's a bit broody and moody. And he's not always fair to his people (Wesley), but it's understandable. I like him and Spike equaly!
 
I agree with you Rayne, they are two totally different characters. Each deserving to be recognized for who and what they are and have become. I respect those that prefer one over the other. I, however, do not prefer one extreme of the spectrum over the other.

I enjoy both characters equally. I respect and admire them each for their own strenghts and and even faults. I feel that many of their strengths seem to overlap each other as well, which makes them very similar in some ways. (besides the obvious fact that they are both vampires and now both have a soul)

Angel's character is not boring, he internalizes a lot of his feelings and emotions. Those who do not understand this might interpret him as boring. I prefer to term it, misunderstood. I have only seen season 1, 2 and the current epps of season 5, but Angel seems to develop more and more depth with each epp. In my opinion, Spike has done no less. I will always be fond of the both of them.

Okay i love both!Spike is tight!He loves buffy and is pretty funny.So not spit!

And angel is hot!GORGEOUS!He has a good personality..Isnt too funny.more serious...But theres something about him that makes me shutter!Maybe the lack of non-perfectness!because he is F*ing perfect!
 
Angel's better looking than me. Kidding (after all, I'm better looking than he--lol) but you that's what they're really saying...
 
Angel rocks, I don't think there is anything wrong with him, he so beats Spike.
 
angel is one of the best characters ever!....well,angelus is better...
i think there's nothing wrong with his brooding,i like that 🙂
 
I know I aint meant to say ought bout looks but Angel is way hotter thn Spike..anyway..I dont hate Angel...he's kewl...hes funni in his own lil way..I also like Spike aswel as he is a very amusing charachter...the difference bout them too is Spike shows how he feels in his humour where as Angel hides his like when he broods.

ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL!Spike is cool, but no!Its angel!Angel is hot, cool, mature, nice, funny(sometimes), he has the nicest smile, hottest bod, he is myseteious, he is the....HES SO FREAKIN HOT I CANT EXPLAIN IT!his smile throws me!I melt when ever i see him!He steals my heart when ever he comes on tv!

Okay back on topic now, ANGEL is HOTTER then SPIKE!ANGEL is COOLER then SPIKE!ANGEL is BETTER then SPIKE!(in my oppinion, that is.i still like spike but love angel)
