Why Do You Ship Spuffy?

They have some really similar personality traits, their lack of inclination to follow the rules, adaptability, loyalty, quick wit and they are both firey/passionate. These and their duality seem to draw them to each other. The relationship they start from when Spike is soulless shows glimpses of a comfort together, of a potential that can't be reached as is. So when Spike becomes souled they are able to change the bad and create something positive that really strengthens each other. 🙂
I think they make sense as a long term couple because when all the passion and romance fizzles, they could get by on companionship. Her relationship with Angel was always going to be too intense, her relationship with Riley would get (had gotten?) dull, but Spike is a nice in between.
They remind of old IRL couples who probably haven't had sex in ten years and have separate bedrooms but are still best friends and rely on each other.

Spike will never stop loving her. Honestly I could see Buffy dying of old age and Spike would still be taking care of her, looking like a 29 year old guy. They also rely on each other and are stronger together. Spike would do anything for her and she has grown to return the favor. They put each other first. They have an incredible ability to forgive and live in the moment. Post death Buffy has a lot in common with Spike, and then ensouled Spike has a lot in common with moved on from coming back from the dead Buffy. They are also loyal to each other even when there is serious doubt from others. Buffy is able to see the good in him when no one else does and Spike is able to trump his past by living every moment to make Buffy happy. The two have great chemistry, they understand each other, and they know exactly what the other needs when they need it most. And, they look really good together.

One of the honest answers is that the characters were played by two immensely talented and good looking actors, If Spike was played by someone like the Blucas(so captain cardboardy) I would be rooting for him to get killed at the end of season 2.
The reason why I ship Spuffy as characters are I could see the chemistry radiating off them from the first go itself. I think I started shipping them after the episode "becoming" when he goes to Buffy for a truce, I craved for their moments together from then on but I always guessed that he will only fall in love after getting his soul it was very surprising to me that he fell in love with her soulless that's what made me so crazy, I have such a thing for forbidden love and I really like how their story progressed throughout the series, making me want more at the same time making me scared to want more. There were ups and downs, so many beautiful and so many horrible moments. There was never a love story that touched me so deeply maybe I just need to watch more romantic series but I doubt if anything could match up to it now. I believe the truest and purest love is that heals you makes you better, bring you to light. That's what Buffy did to Spike

I always liked the acting dynamic better between James and Sarah than between her and David, though I can't really pin down why. I think that it has to do with the attitudes of the two vampires in question. David plays Angel as a tortured soul, brooding over his past sins and pining for the one girl in the world who he has ever loved. James plays Spikes someone who lives in the present accepting the fact that he has done wrong in the past, but realizing that what is past, is past, and what matters is what he does today and tomorrow. He probably grew up reading stories of high adventure, glorious battles, and of knights and their ladies. Most likely, he always dreamed of being some lady's protector and Champion. We saw it with William's mother, with Drusilla, with Dawn, and now, with Buffy.
It's sort of like, Angel wants to have his own life, but always be available whenever Buffy needs him, but, for Spike, Buffy is his single purpose for being, whether at her side or just watching and protecting her while she sleeps.

2) they have a nice height ratio
3) spike's got no problem admitting Buffy is stronger
4) they are both loyal and faithful to each other. Loved how worried Buffy was about spike in S7
5) chemistry off the charts
6) they fight well together
7) they are both wary of magic and its consequences
8) they both care for Dawn
9) the journey that brought them to where they are. It wasn't some standard manpire meets slayer and is attracted to her boring story. It was so much richer and more complicated. Enemies that learned to trust each other, frenemies, then friends, then $&/! Buddies then falling in love for real and learning how a healthy relationship feels.

I love Spuffy because I love Buffy and so far Spike is the best partner she has had. Their story is epic and has everything, it's excitng, compelling, poignant, funny, violent, passionate, evolving and lasting. Oh, and hot, their chemistry is amazing.
For Buffy the mission is what's important, and she needs someone who will make her their mission and that's what Spike does. Within their relatinship they are equals, but he is happy to be her second in command and let her lead when it comes to the battle. Spike admires Buffy's skill and strength, he is proud of her and her achievements, there is no petty jealousy there, or bruised ego.

They are equally matched. None of them has to look up to the other. They don`t put each other on a pedestal. They know not only the best but also the worst of each other and they still love each other.
Their love doesn`t have this touch of perfection, of a romeo-and-juliet-romance that can never last because romeo and juliet didn`t make it either, as we all know. Their love is real. Their love is like coming home.
And the sex is hot, of course ;-)

I ship them a) because it's what Spike wants and b) because any Leonard Cohen song I listen to could be coming from Spike. I like Angel but I don't understand how Bangel could exist in reality and outside of an ideal.
