Why do you think Tara is so popular?

@Silverspike Yes, I do recall hearing that in an interview of some sort. Noxon was very persistent on Amber taking the role, yes? I wonder what her character would've been like if they had ended up casting another..

Imo Joss definitely does seem to have a 'type' when it comes to women.
 
@Silverspike I suppose when you think about it like that, he does have a common 'type'. At least, personality wise, each character is relatively different.
Perhaps that is why I gravitated more towards Tara's character more than the others.. She was vastly different, physically and mentally. The relatability of her personality and journey allowed me to latch onto her character significantly more than any other
 
I am rewatching season six at the moment and it's definitely refreshing to see a difference in character personality and stature. Tara is incredulously sweet and understanding to each and every character she interacts with and it utterly warms my heart to see such a.. human character? She possessed the most humanity out of all characters, both literally and philosophically. Ah, how I miss her.
 
Yes, Tara was a wonderful person. 🙂 (I still don't see how people could think she's boring, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. 😛)

Amber Benson is also a wonderful human being, her own personality is a lot different (In a very good way) than other people she worked with on Buffy.
 
Everything I have seen about Amber Benson indicates that she is the extroverted life of the party. She is often the funniest person in the Buffy cast at the comic cons. The character she portrayed is in many ways the opposite of herself. I wonder if the story could have been written about a confident, extroverted Tara. The "Family" episode would have changed but that would have been a small price to pay.
 
Oh that would have been pretty cool! I think also that Tara would have been featured in more episodes if she were so confident in herself from the beginning.
 
I'm glad they didn't portray Tara as an extrovert. It's so rare to get proper introvert characters on TV, and even then their personality tends to do a 180 a few season down the road. I'm glad this didn't happen with Tara, sure she got confidence, but her personality never changed. Speaking of this thread actually, this is one of the things I like most about her, people mistake her shyness for boringness, but Tara does have one of the biggest heart of the series. I often take a liking to characters like this who often do not have the loudest voice, but it may be the wisest.
 
As @Blaze has said, I also am glad that Tara's overall personality never strayed from her true characterisation; her shy, somewhat reserved attitude is one of the aspects of her personality that caused me to gravitate towards her. Also due to the fact she was very different in comparison to the other female characters on the show. I truly believe that Tara possessed the biggest, most compassionate, hearts of all the characters.
 
I adored Tara. She was so good for Willow. Watching them fall in love was beautiful. They were both nerdy types, and so intelligent. But Tara's appearance was so beautifully hippy girl/fairy princess; and she stood out. (especially after Buffy got so painfully thin)

Tara had the most amazing, alluring eyes! Like pools of warm emerald. And her lips....the crooked smile...yes, I developed a girl crush, and I'm proud to admit it. 😛

I loved the sparkly, gypsy clothes that she (and Willow) wore. And the crystal jewelry...very witchy.

She's so lovely, I get poetic.
Tara is such a sweet heart. Without doubt, she is the most genuinely nice person in the entire world, real or otherwise. She is so reasonable, and level-headed. Those traits she holds through out, but when we first see her she is the uber shy, conservative almost innocent in nature type of person. it’s Willow who ends up breaking Tara out of her shell, making her into the amazing person we all have grown to love by the end of Season 6, when she sadly dies.
I really love the dynamic of the relationship between Tara and Dawn. It’s not super in your face, but i feel like its a little prevalent that Tara sort of becomes a mother-figure to Dawn after Joyce’s death, and even more after Buffy’s death at the end of season 5. To me, the most obvious proof of this is in OMWF when Tara pokes her head into Dawns room and Dawn says something regarding how she is happy that Tara and Willow aren’t fighting anymore, not knowing that Willow put a spell on Tara making her forget that fight.
Of course, Tara’s death. Her death is probably one of the most important of the entire show, the only other one that rivals it is Joyce’s. But Joyce’s only effects the show emotionally, where Tara’s death triggers a crap-ton of horrible events. I hate that Tara dies. I hate how random and sudden it is. I hate how it makes Willow feel. I hate that it makes me cry every time i watch it. With all that said, Tara’s death most defiantly fits into how Joss tends to like to kill off his characters. Tara had finally obtained a magic-free, happy, honest and open relationship with Willow. She was so happy, she had what she had always wanted. So in the true nature of Joss, she had to die. One super significant part about Tara’s death, which goes back to what i was saying about her being so sweet and caring about other people, is that after she got shot by Warren’s stray bullet, she doesn’t acknowledge the pain she’s in, but instead, she looks at Willow and just says, “Your shirt…”. It’s so completely the nature of Tara to notice other peoples misfortunes before her own, in this case, noticing her blood spattered on Willow’s top before knowing her own pain.
I love Amber Benson as Tara. It isn’t until you view just about anything else she is for you to truly appreciate how amazing she is. And that doesn’t mean that her work as Tara is not impressive, it is. Standing alone, her work on BTVS is wonderful. But when you compare it to something else, and you really see her range both emotionally and physically as an actor, she really becomes mind-blowing then. She is much more wild and, well opposite of Tara as far as i can tell. Plus, she is so remarkably beautiful. I can’t get over it sometimes.
 
I think that Joss went through a charactercide phase. Unfortunately Lost really kicked that trend wide open. Lots of shows still use that as more of a crutch.

She's got actually a lot of flaws (like everyone else) and made mistakes, was unfair, self-centered, rude, hurtful, absolutely wrong, screwed things up etc. etc. *at times*. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Tara was intentionally evil or malicious or even a bad person. But she wasn't saintly and perfect either... rather benefitted from a well-disposed text. Her flaws are grounded in insecurities, a screwed up upbringing and a very dogmatic/conservative magical education that had controlled her behaviour and mindset.

Another reason that she's so popular might be that most fans remember her time after she broke up with Willow best. When she got more confident, took care of Dawn and supported Buffy etc. She's my favorite Tara in that phase too (until Older and Far Away).🙂

That's partially why she annoys me...because no one ever acknowledges her faults.
 
Tara became one of my most beloved characters at the end of 'Dead Things', when she's just so perfectly understanding and supportive of Buffy. Throughout the entire show there were so many moments when I wanted to just reach through my television and hug Buffy, and tell her it's all going to be OK. And in 'Dead Things', Buffy gets exactly that from Tara - unconditional, judgement-free support, just when she needs it most. I always liked Tara, and I liked her a LOT even before 'Dead Things', but that scene is when I started LOVING Tara.
 
In my opinion it seems like some here treat her like a saint. While others treat her like a dog. I think that overall she was a sweet & caring, but flawed individual.

Well, no one is a saint... But Tara is probably as close as it gets. At least in the Buffyverse.
I think everyone puts a lot of emphasizes on the being few lesbian characters on TV. Not that it didn't make a huge impact but her character in general was pretty flawless... She was the only level headed character on the whole damn series... And beyond selfless which is super rare to find in anyone t.v or real life lol... Aside from being absolutely gorgeous (jealous lol) what is there to hate
