Why does Spike change his mind?

Why is it that Spike was lovin' the Judge action to end the world but not Acathla? Both were designed to take out just humans/souls correct? What is the difference, beyond Angelus's simultaneous cruel dangling of Drusilla's affections in front of him, between the two scenarios? What ultimately made Spike decide he "likes this world" in the end?

He realizes that he and Buffy are meant to be, and seeking her help is all part of his plan to woo her.

No, I really don't know. I kind of forgot about the Judge's plan. Are you sure he didn't just want to take over the world? He wanted to end it? Yeah, it's time for my semi-annual re-watch haha. Maybe he was just pissed at Angelus. He had taken Dru from him once (possibly more than once) before, and as Buffy stated, she was a big ho, so maybe he just wanted to piss Angel off and get Dru back.

I don't think he was loving the Judge at all. I think he was pretending for Dru's sake. He liked the world and he wanted Dru back.

Yeah, I think that Spike didn't actually think much about the Judge, beyond the fact that it made Dru happy.

With Acathla, I think Spike was already against it because it was Angelus' idea and the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he really liked this world.

I think he didn't want to have to play second fiddle to Angelus really. If he wanted to bring about mass destruction then it should be on his terms.

I think Spike was just more against Angelus than the actual idea. Although he did like the world the way it was, i think the majority of his decision was based on getting one over on Angelus so that to him he was the "big bad". I think in Spikes mind he always felt second best to Angelus, and that all the attention was always on him,and not Spike.

I agree with the above two posts... I think it is the same as the anointed one... he can only play along for awhile before he resents being told what to do (probably because William was sans backbone). I think he has a love/hate relationship with being domineered and after the judge they quit seeing eye to eye on destruction for the sake of fun vs destruction for the sake of art.

My understanding was that the judge sucked out people's humanity...not their blood; while acathla would bring hell on earth/suck the world into hell. One kept the happy meals around (albeit devoid of humanity) while the other brought out way too many other demons and whatnot that would have greatly decreased and/or eliminated said happy meals.

He lied about liking the world that much. He wanted Drusilla back, once he got her, he left Buffy and the world to their doom.

No, The Judge burned them.

I don't think he was loving the Judge at all.

Why? He was very annoyed that Angel delayed the plan of using The Judge and that The Judge needed to gather enough power to do some real damage:

Spike: When do we destroy the world already?

And if he didn't like the plan he wouldn't have gifted Drusilla the parts to assemble the Judge in the first place.

I think Spike knew full well that the Judge was not going to succeed. After all, Spike knew that an army had taken the Judge apart before. Spike would have been under no illusion that the same was going to happen again, at some point. Not before Spike had some fun of course.

As others have mentioned, Spike liked destruction because it was fun, he loved to rock the boat. Angel on the other hand had a plan to literally sink the boat, and all the fun things on it.
