Why Don't People Fight Back?

Whenever a vampire feeds on someone, in the Buffyverse or anywhere else, for that matter, the victim might try to run away, but once they're cought, they don't seem to put up any struggle whatsoever. Most of them don't even seem to show any pain when they're being bitten. Lugosi used to do that "Look deeeep into my eyes..." thing, and the ladies were putty in his hands, but except for Drusilla and maybe the Master (and Drac himself, of course,) the run of the mill vamps just grab, bite, and suck. No yelling, no fighting.

So, why don't they fight back, and if it were you, would you struggle?
 
Well maybe a vamps grip on the person is just too powerful. And i think alot of its down to shock and that alot of people in general are (unsure of their physical capabilities) and dont really know what to do.
 
I don't think you really can fight back that much. Remember how Angel sucked the life out of Buffy? Well of course she wanted him to drink, but not that much and well you could tell she was pretty powerless against him. And that's the slayer, other people are a lot weaker.
 
and also, if a person even looses a tiny a mount of blood(say half a cupful) thats still enough to send the body into shock.
 
^ I don't know about that. I donate blood fairly regularly and they take a full pint and I'm not in shock. A bit queasy, sometimes REALLY hungry, and always exhausted, but not so I couldn't fight if someone attacked me.
 
yeah ok i was exaggerating but, i got a tattoo and it wasnt painful but for some reason i got a mini dizzy spell for a minute, i assume because of mini shock. But if a vamp who has a grip on you(the way an adult could easily constrain a child) and puts 2inch fangs into your neck, add to that the absolute suprise at what was happening.... there would be little to no chance for a victim.

And that's AFTER you've given the blood, not the moment the needle is stuck in. Granted, some people would immediately go into shock, just like a lot of soldiers in their first fire fight, but not all of them. Some fight back, and I don't see any difference in combat and being bitten by a vampire. SOMEBODY, SOMETIME, should at least struggle a little
 
Well it has been said a few times in the buffyverse that vampires prey on the weak!
How ofter have you seen a vamp kill a 6'5, 300lbs man?
 
Oh, sorry to butt in kinda off topic but that got me thinking! How come you always see vampires biting weedy little people but you quite often see large, muscular vamps? Where do they suddenly get all this bulk?

Sorry for being slightly off topic eek.
 
Put it this way.

If i was a Vampire, i would so NOT be worried about any human, including 6'5 hulks.

Guess it boils down again to the theory I had regarding there being two types of vamps, the "sensible" ones and the "kill junkies". Probably the "kill junkies" would from time to time enjoy the challenge going up against brawnier victims, while the "sensibles" (who, I'd guess, are the majority of those that survive their first week in Slayertown) would stick to a wimp every two weeks or so.


On the main topic, I think just seeing the vamp's "combat face" up close would be enough to send quite a number of people into helpless shock.
 
Well, if I ever saw a vamp and it attacked me... umm... I'd like to think I'd run or fight back, but I honestly think I'd be too surprised and shocked to think that clearly. I might even think I was dreaming or hallucinating. A vampire is totally different from a normal threat and not something that I even place in the realm of possibility. When I leave my house, I know I might be mugged or robbed or hit by a car. When I'm in the wilderness or in the ocean, I know there's a slight chance of an animal attack. Because I expect them on some level, I have some idea of how to handle those threats. A vampire attack, well, that would be something completely different and unexpected. I think it's fair to allow for the possibility that being attacked by one might elicit a different psychological and physiological response than being attacked by something other than a cross between a demon and a reanimated human corpse.
