Question Why Don't they Make Season Eight into an Animated Film?

Turning comic books into movies has arguably driven the US Economy for the past 10 years, so why not Buffy Season Eight?

The comic sales figures show that the fan-base remains (not to mention the millions who would watch an animated film, but not read a comic book).

I'm not even saying a big production, just a top notch 2D Direct-to-DVD animated film, great ones involving Boreanaz & Marsters have recently been produced for DC for around $5m. Between airing rights on the CW and/or cable, DVD, Blu-Ray, and Netflix sales, it would certainly double a $5m investment.

And as I said, two of the five biggest actors from the cast are already involved in similar projects.

Personally, I'd love a Buffy Season Eight Animated DVD Movie/Trilogy and an Angel: After the Fall Animated DVD. I'd pay at least $25 for each, if BS8 was produced as a Trilogy that would certainly mean a decent profit.
 
Two words: Eww. No.
Neither Buffy or Angel seem like they would be good as an animated film imo. It would just be weird. Almost all animated movies are seen as childish. Also, if it went straight to DVD it would just seem cheap, and I'm assuming Whedon would not want to do this. Buffy: The Animated Series is different. It's set when Buffy and co. are high schoolers. It still CAN be childish. And AtF... I firmly believe that Urru's style could not be translated to a live-action movie OR an animated movie.

Hmm... What about a motion comic? Idk, maybe.

What's the diff between a motion comic and animated film? I always assumed they were the same.

I humbly disagree. See the David Boreanaz/Neil Patrick Harris/Lucy Lawless/Brooke Shields/Kyra Sedgwick project Justice League: The New Frontier (2008).

Then you have Batman: Mask of the Phantasm which Siskel & Ebert ranked as one of the best superhero productions ever made, just below the Christopher Reeves' Superman.
 
Yeah I disagree to, I think people seeing animated movies as childish is still a big thing, but I don't think that opinion is as big anymore.

I think a motion comic movie would have way less appeal, I think they just come across as cheap!

I know some animated movies aren't childish. I was just saying that people are going to view it as childish. As such, the creators of the animated movie would probably try to make it a little more kid friendly. Obviously I could be wrong.

Well the David Boreanaz/Neil Patrick Harris/Lucy Lawless/Brooke Shields/Kyra Sedgwick project Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) is PG-13, I don't think I'd want an R or NC-17 Buffy project in any medium...
 
I personally would be more interested in seeing s8 turned into an animated movie than seeing any other kind of Buffy movie. (honestly I think the actors are over the hill and far far away... repeating those roles wouldn't work. Especially for the vamps who aren't supposed to age. Not to mention trying to get all of them involved...)

So I would definitely rather cough up the dough to buy animated flicks. But then, I do enjoy the plot line of s8.

It wouldn't be hard to make David Boreanaz and James Marsters look younger with the technology they now have in Hollywood. Give me the cast and a proper film over an animated version, it would be amazing.

The fans love the cast if they were involved the film would be an instant success and i'd have faith in every single one of them putting in a great performance. Sadly it is only a pipedream so there is no point thinking about it in too much detail.

It would be tough impossible to do an entire movie with that tech for under $10m 😉

Exactly? That's why I asked about an animated film? It would be much easier to get a studio to speculate on a $5m animated project compared to a $50m Feature Film. That's not to mention the fact that I couldn't see any of the primary cast turning it down except for maybe SMG. And since SMG has been partly retired as of late to spend time with her baby, this would be a great way to continue working, but not devote a ton of time.
 
I totally agree with Taake... I don't has much time for pleasure reading anymore so I hvebt been able to read the comics. But if they turned it into a movie or series of movies I would be all over it!!
 
It requires less effort then the Comics and unlike the new Buffy film coming out in 2012, i'd be willing to watch an animated movie version of Buffy.
 
I doubt it too, I'm not sure why though.

In terms of prestige, this project would be on-par with David & James' normal side-projects.

And in terms of convenience, it would be relatively easy for everyone, certainly compared to shooting live-action.

I'd also guess that the pay would be better or at least equal to the Indy films SMG's been doing for the past 5 years.

Alyson's the only one who seems super-busy, but I think even she could peel away from TV/film to lend her voice to the franchise that gave her 7-seasons of work, and introduced her to her husband 😛
 
I doubt it as well 🙁 I would LOVE to see one. It would be so much easier than a regular movie, and I enjoyed the little episode of the animated series.
