For me personally Harmony was always a background character in Buffy. We never really got to know too much about her and we could go whole episodes with no appearance from Harmony. So when they decided to make her into a bigger, more rounded character I was miffed. My question is this. Why did they use Harmony in season five of Angel when some of our more loved characters (Cordy) got pushed to the side? If they hadn't have chosen Harmony to join the cast in season five who else would you have liked to see working alongside the fang gang?

I haven't seen S5 of Angel yet, but I'm quite looking forward to seeing Harmony again. I think they utilised all the best characters on both shows, so I can't really think of anyone I'd have liked to see more of.

Perhaps Faith, but I'm unsure.

well I love harmony and I adore her development. But I wish that cordy had been a part of season 5 and it would have been cool to have faith as part of the team as well.

This is exactly how I feel. When I found out Harmony was added as a regular, I was kinda like "HUH?!" I never liked her much, and I really never liked her as a ditzy vampire. I think it was crappy that better characters got shafted out of screen time to give her some.

I liked Harmony, actually. I mean, she was like a dumber Cordelia to me. I liked her purely for amusement and I thought she had shown some nice sides to her in Angel season 5 that we hadn't been exposed to (I quite liked how willing she was to take out Eve if asked; something about her reaction to Fred's death I liked too.). I hate season 5 because I believe you can't take a heart - Cordy - out of a show and expect it thrive as it once did; and it didn't. Harmony was probably brought back to help balance the male cast out more - especially after Illyria. This was case number 2 where Spike was brought in to replace Cordelia (first being Buffy season 4) and again it didn't work (IMO); Harmony was the next best thing to Queen C. I would've loved to have seen Gwen as the regular I understood she was intended to be. Or in a perfect world the return of Kate. Anne, even. Or even more perfect, just Cordelia.

I never understood why they gave Harmony a bigger role. I found her fairly annoying but my biggest problem with her was that she messed up the vampire mythology the show had established. We had been told over and over again that vampires can't control the demon in them yet somehow she does...makes no sense.

I think Harmony & Spike were supposed to fill a void that Cordelia had left. I didn't mind Harmony & actually thought she was very funny. I loved the episode Harm's Way, but If Angel were picked up for a 6th season I definitely would have had her leave.

The thing with Cordy had a lot to do with Joss and Charisma, but the character itself.

Personally, I thought it tied in nicely to have Harmony come back and try to be good. I liked her in s4 of Buffy, and when she came to visit Cordelia on Angel. I thought she was funny. And her reaction to seeing Spike was awesome.

If not Harmony... I don't know who I'd place there.

Other than the chip changing his behavior, Spike made little sense in terms of the way vampires were presented to us in BTVS.
I didn't really loved Harmony, but at least I don't really hates her! I think that Joss could create a new Big Bad instead of her but may he thought: "Hey let's give our fans a new surprise, an old character from Buffy, that would be more fun than creating a new villain. We give them a part of BTVS back. With Harmony!"

I do like Harmony in season 5- I think having her as Angel's secretary is hilarious! I do think it messes with the vampire mythology a bit, but then again that started with Spike. Would I be willing to have her go in order to bring Cordy back? Most definitely! Hell, I love the Spangel interaction in s5, but I'd even be willing to part with Spike for Cordy's sake.

However, I loathe Harmony in season 8- loathe to the very fiber of my being. She wasn't too bad in this latest Angel & Faith issue.

I think it was a good idea. For once, we could see a vampire more funny than useful, who don't wanna be a champion... I think she is really funny and it was a good idea for season 5 because it's not really the funniest season... She brings some "fresh air" to the show.
And we could see, for one time, what is a vampire with no soul, trying not to be a bad vampire: she just can't do it. And she is the perfect exemple that: no need to be really mean, even if he tries, a vampire can't resist to his pulsions.

Harmony was an awesome character in my opinion, and I think she was bought into season 5 just to add a bit of fun, as she was quite amusing. And tbh, I even though she was credited as a main character, she really wasnt that involved in most episodes apart from "In Harms Way" and a couple of others... I kind of expected her to get killed off but am glad she didnt :L

I dont think they used her to fill cordys gap at all, I think she was mainly there to remove some of the darkness and add fun! 😀

I think Harmony was added for good reason. (Even though I don't like her character) Firstly, Buffy was over and to see another face from Buffy on Angel was nice for the fans. She lightened the mood of some of S5. Also, she's kind of a gray area character. She might be good, might be bad, so near the end of the season when they were wrapping it up they could use her for whatever they wanted. It worked out.

I really wasn't a fan of the real Harmony, at all...but I did like vamp Harmony. It was interesting how she was able to control her vampire urges. I found her appealing for some reason. She made me laugh...heh.

She didn't really control her vampire urges per se. It was more out of fear of death than self control.

I like Harmony and was happy they added her for comic relief, but she definitely wasn't part of the Angel's Investigation Team. She was simply a secretary and never helped out in the missions.
