I've read on her IMDB board that some people on there label her as a bitch or something? Is it because she's a professional while on set?

No one here (I assume) knows SMG personally. So no one can confirm or deny this. Very simple.

From the scraps of evidence we do have, people say SMG does have an attitude. James Marsters talked about it during a convention (it's somewhere on youtube), she didn't do any interviews for the DVD special features, and she doesn't do conventions (except that one at Paleyfest). With that being said, we don't know for sure and probably never will.

WHAT?!!! NO WAY!!! i've never heard her to be labelled as a bitch. maybe its because when she was in the movie Cruel Intentions she played a bitch really well, and maybe some people really think she's like that lol

But i cant think of an honest reason as to why people would think that. I know she can be hard to interview sometimes, in fact she rarely does them, but i wouldn't call that bitchy. Maybe she's bossy on set or just someone who likes to get her job done, and some people don't like that.

Stoopid people.

Well wasn't that due to her having a busy schedule with her movie career outside Buffy?

I swear there was another thread like this recently. I'll say the same thing that I think I may have said there (Unless I'm just imagining things which is possible 😛) :

You can't make judgements of people you've never met in your life.

Furthermore, sine it's not likely that I will ever meet SMG, I don't really care if she is a 'bitch'. 😀

I always thought that she had a strange attitude towards her work and fans. I wouldn't call her 'bitch' though.
However, in an interview she said that a few years ago, she got annoyed by people on the street calling her 'Buffy', but now she appreciates it and she's proud that she was a part of such a big show. Or something like that, anyway. I've also seen a video where Sarah is at a movie premiere or something when a fan suddenly begins to cry. She then goes over to the fan and hugs her and everything. Doesn't sound to me like a bitch.

Anyway, I think she can be weird on set, when she or somebody else messes something up.

Hmm. Well I don't follow Sarah's personal life or career outside Buffy too closely so I haven't heard any of the stories that may have lead people to think this, nor have I had any experience with her personally myself. But I think sometimes in the entertainment industry being private and strictly professional gets mistaken for bitchy or rude. Some actors don't enjoy the interviews, press attention, etc. as much and only want to do things they're comfortable with. SMG might not be the most open or warm with fans and the public, she probably has some particular preferences for how things go on set and she might be bossy about it sometimes but I don't see that as reason to call her bitchy. Unless someone has had a direct interaction with her in which she acted in a truly mean manner I would say the term bitch is a bit harsh.

Regardless, how she acts in her own life is probably none of my business anyway. I still get to enjoy the fruit of her labors and the amazing character she brought to life no matter what sort of attitude she may have had while filming and that's what's important to me. 🙂

I think the label comes from her attitude while she's working. From everything I've ever read or seen people say about SMG, and from comments she herself has made, she is extremely professional in that she's a perfectionist; she doesn't like mistakes on set, and she doesn't like to socialize outside of work with her coworkers because she likes to keep her private life separate from her career. Notice how we hardly ever saw pictures of her hanging out with the cast and crew from the show outside of work, and I once read a story about how she flipped out on the crew once because a stunt didn't go as planned on the set of BtVS.
I agree with Hale Caesar; I don't see why in all 7 years of BtVS she could never be bothered to do interviews for the commentaries or do the conventions and stuff. She did a few movies, yeah, but it really doesn't take that much time to sit down for 30 minutes to do something that will make a lot of fans happy. but SMG never did seem to appreciate her BtVS fans, IMO, til the show ended, which always left a bad taste in my mouth...
I still love her as Buffy, though, and think she's incredibly beautiful and talented. I just think that if people call her a bitch, she's probably earned the title.

I think this above is more or less the case but as I'm totally team Sarah here I disagree with giving her the label bitch (or not appearing on extra features, I don't see why that would be a requirement of someone who seems to want to be an actress, not to just be a celebrity and popular with fans)) but I guess I might see why some others do.

People take offense some times to the things mentioned above and I guess to someone who's less of a perfectionist and more gregarious her attitude would be a problem or even considered rude... it's all about how different people react to different things and the label of 'bitch' is one all too easy to get stuck with once it's mentioned once or twice. It's a bit more interesting I suppose than being a 'sweetheart'.

I've read bad things about SMG and I've read glowing recommendations the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Just like all of us 🙂

While I would have loved for her to take some time to do interviews or commentaries, I respect her desiscion to spend her free time on herself and her family, than on a bunch of strangers(us) she worked really hard for on screen otherwise. She spent so many hours per day, trying hard to do her best, so I guess we can't expect her to do even more. I read a interview where she said ste was very busy, so we have to respect that.

I read a interview with James M where he galks about how she sat down with him in season 2, so while he wasnt even sure he'd be staying on the show for long, but she still sat down eith him to inform him(in a nice friendly way) that she didnt socialize with her collegues. As a way to say it wasnt anything personal I guess, which I thought sounded sweet.

And about her flipping out once; if that makes her s bitch, we are all bitches. Who foesnt get impatient once in a while? Could have been a one time thing, considering I heard she did a prank on set once(she asked Dushku to be prepared to catch her when she ran at her, which apparently started a bunch og gay rumours).

I still love her as Buffy, though, and think she's incredibly beautiful and talented. I just think that if people call her a bitch, she's probably earned the title.

I don't know, that's how rumours spread. One person says something, other people repeat it, some simply assuming it's fact because they hear the samd rumours from several people. Then there's those that just enjoy lying, but believably.

When I was in the ninth grade, a hole class seemed convinced I was a grandma. Didnt make it true.

I can respect her not wanting to hang out with coworkers. I'm the same way and people also think I'm rude or weird. It's nothing personal but the reality is that friends are the people you choose to include in your life. Coworkers are people that society forces on you. That doesn't mean you can't find a friend at work but you don't have to be chummy with everyone. Obviously SMG must have made exceptions hence Freddie.

In her earlier years she did interviews for Buffy and did them WB promos and 1800 adverts as Buffy she loved it, but apparently she got sick of being called Buffy like people had said and that she didn't want to be known as just Buffy, also she got very demanding and stubborn examples of this is she wouldn't do the Buffy voice for the Buffy games or cartoon series as she demanded a script and would not do it unless she got what she wanted (by the way I am not saying she is what people are calling her just the facts I have read) also with 'Once More With Feeling' she refused to do it plenty of times cause she said she could not sing or dance but later agreed to it after the cast and Joss convinced her. In the Buffy magazines during season 5 Sarah signed a contract for 4 more seasons which Buffy would of ended in season 9 but she ended her contract early after season 6, the reasons for this appartently she hated the story lines (not starting a war here these are just facts and news I have read 🙂 ) she hated the sex scenes, Spuffy, felt the cast were no longer close and she had some arguments with Joss. Also I have read and a friend told me that almost the whole cast including Nick, Alyson, David, James etc had all argeed to do a Buffy movie around after Angel finished but Sarah said she didn't want to come back. Also about the mistake thing she really hated that as that's why we never see her in bloopers expect for the ones on youtube which were rare and unseen plus she only let the ones with her and David be shown cause they were best friends at the time.

Personally I don't know if these are true I know that OMWF and the using her voice for the games and cartoon are true as Anthony Stewart and Joss Whedon have said this in interviews, I personally like Sarah as if she was a "bitch" she wouldn't of like let figure companys make figures of her and done them adverts before. However I do think it's weird how she did the adverts and promos and interviews for the earlier seasons of buffy but not the newer ones, I really wish she did Angel for the last season as she is very close to David but appartently she was filming 'The Grudge', but I don't know maybe some of the reasons I have explain are the reasons people calling Sarah a "Bitch"

I think that there are always going to be rumors about people, especially famous actresses, no matter what happens. The simple truth is, very few of us actually know Sarah. So going by that alone, I don't think it's fair to call her names or attack her on a personal level, because all the "information" we're basing our responses on here come from hearsay and watered-down, third or fourth hand info. Hearing that Sarah is a "bitch" because "I heard it from a friend of a friend who used to work with a guy who knew someone on the set", or something in that vein, is just kind of silly, in my opinion.

And also, judging from a lot of the above comments regarding her demeanor on set, there are many professions out there where who you are at work isn't who you are at home, if that makes sense. Being a manager, boss or in her case star of the show, comes with a tremendous amount of natural pressure to succeed and be the best that you can be. Speaking from experience a little bit (I was never a famous actress, but you get the gist), it's a completely different type of atmosphere being in charge or expected to lead than it is as a regular 9-to-5'er. A lot of people don't understand that. So saying that she's a "bitch" on set can be a pretty unfair statement.

Being honest, I'm almost always going to side with Sarah unless confronted with pretty iron-clad evidence to the contrary (which we most definitely do not have here). She's one of my favorite actresses and Buffy the character and the show is something I have a very personal connection to. Sure, I know that has very little to do with her personally, but that's just the way I feel.

Always Bangel I agree I never have thought she was a bitch maybe she did do all the things I have explained or maybe not but I have never judged her and is proud that she did the 7 years of Buffy she is one of my idols and I love her other work.

I agree with much of what has been said about Sarah just being a private person. If she just wants to put a bit of distance between her work and herself, who are we to blame her?

drizzlydaze agrees: "convinced I was a grandma" LOL what? That doesn't even make sense. XD

I know!

I walked down the hallway and the little seventh graders whispers/yelled grandma and giggled. I wasn't that offended by it, compared to other things I've been called. But one kid didn't laugh, he actually asked me later, all serious, if I was a grandma. I have no idea if more people than he believed it.

Anyway, even though it did hurt my ego(I couldn't have looked that old) I explained that would be impossible(I might have sounded a bit condescending, even though he meant no harm). Now I'm not sure if it is. I heard of this girl who got her menstruation at age 4, so who knows; Maybe I could have been a grandma at that age. Veeeeery unlikely.

Anyway, good example of how the most ridicolous rumour could exist and still just be BS. I'd like to wonder who came up with that. Or who was dumb enough to misunderstand what someone else said, or what they've read about me, leading to them believing I was a grandma.

She's known for being very professional and a bit of a perfectionist, but I don't think that makes her bitchy. I don't think anyone could really handle her job without being a bit "bitchy" sometimes, particularly when it overlaps so much with very personal areas of her life. She's not just an actress, she's an icon. You do what you have to do to take care of yourself and your family.

Some of the reasons why people consider her "bitchy" make me laugh. Being a perfectionist, "flipping out", seeming cold or petty? Lol, if that's all true then Joss Whedon, not SMG or anyone else on that set, was the bitchiest of them all. Except he never gets that label. The stories I have heard about that man... 🙄

Sure, I guess that's another reason. But like others have pointed out, she is quite busy and she has a lot of other projects. Many of the actors who do cons the most, like James Marsters or Amber Benson, are also doing it to supplement their income and promote personal projects. Maybe Sarah doesn't want to do it that way.

Just curious, does Alyson Hannigan ever do cons or interviews? I remember reading a very long time ago that she doesn't have too many memories of Buffy or something, and then it just occurred to me that I usually don't see her name on the guest list for cons. I wonder what people think of her for that. She and her family seem pretty beloved in the Whedonverse fandom otherwise.

THAT'S WRONG!!!!!!!! i have never heard that ! and i'm against ! i think she is honest, a good wife and a good mother ! not a bitch like others artists !
