Why is Willow Still With Kennedy?

I always understood the Willow/Kennedy relationship to a point. Willow needed someone strong and Kennedy was strong, she was and anchor a...*wince* kite string. But that was in season 7! Look at Willow now, she's powerful and confident and in control, she doesn't need Kennedy anymore and to me they never clicked. So why are they still together? Why hasn't Willow moved on and found someone more suited for her? Thoughts?

Well, I have no idea if they click or not, but as seen, Kennedy is a great listener and care for Willow. So now they have this loose distance relationship so why should they break up? They hardly ever see each other but when they're together seem to like having sex with each other and probably do other stuff as well.

I guess they haven't grown tired of each other and I bet this is convenient for both. In ths Satsu/Kennedy issue I guess we will see what Ken thinks about their situation.

In a way, they seem to be very much like Buffy/Angel. They have their own lives, interest and responisbilities and might not have had the change to live together as a couple and see if the do click. For all we know, the longest they've lived beneath the same roof is in Season 7.

I have no idea if they click.

Well, season 8 makes it pretty clear that Willow went ahead and fell in love with the girl.

Yes, I expect the upcoming Kennedy/Satsu issue will feature quite a bit of discussion re: Willow, and Buffy.

I always saw the Willow/Kennedy relationship in Season 7 as more of a parallel to the Spike/Buffy one in Season 6 than anything that Buffy ever shared with Angel. Willow, like Buffy before her, was recovering from a great personal loss and desperately needed someone to help her deal with the pain and disorientation resultant from that loss (Buffy losing heaven, Willow losing her own "heaven," Tara's love). Like Spike in the previous season, Kennedy supplied that love and support. Both Spike and Kennedy underwent great changes (soul/being "Slayer-ized"), after which the respective relationships evolved, developed, and strengthened, rendering each partner stronger and more self assured. Like Buffy before her, Willow was at first reluctant to recognize and admit her true feelings.

At the beginning of Season 8, we are told that Willow and Kennedy are (temporarily, of course) not together, but there is a reunion, showing a stronger more stable relationship. (Obviously, that part hasn't happened with Buffy and Spike...yet. But it's just a matter of time, and it'll be worth waiting for)

I haven't read the comics (yet? I still hope for a novelized version someday), but my personal guess would be because of what they went through together. I mean, they saved the world together (of course along with a bunch of other people), Willow made Kennedy a slayer, Kennedy saw Willow the 'goddess' (you know, the "You're a goddess" line), technically they have made each other strong. And they practically lived together for some time (here, again, of course with a bunch of other people) in Buffy's house, so they've also become used to have each other around. Especially when you've been through a lot with certain people it can be really hard to let them go.

That sounds about right to me.

IMO Kennedy was a bad choice for a gf. She was a total spolied brat (Kennedy admits it herself) I'm secretly hoping for a Willow/Buffy...encounter. I'd love to see Kennedy's face if it happens!

I thought Willow and Kennedy clicked just as well as Willow and Tara. Kennedy is cool. Why would Willow break up with her? Lame.

at least I'm not the only one that likes Kennedy

I'm with you too! If she were straight I'd go for her. Outspoken, confident and cool.
Why is Willow Still With Kennedy?

Because she loves her? 🙂 Seriously, Kennedy is an amazing character, I probably would never get the hate. And she'd improved a lot in S8.

Okay then let's ask the real questions. How do you LOVE someone like Kennedy ?! Let's be realistic people. Better still : how do you love someone like Kennedy when you're as smart, goddessy and amazing as Willow ?!? Surely Amy put some kind of spell on her. We'll find that out further into the season. (Joss, if you read me, please note that idea.)

I guess the writers think it should work now when there are no actresses with zero chemistry to portray the characters

SO I'm not a reader of the comics... But why is Willow still with Kennedy? Simply because she loves her maybe? Love isn't something that's always explainable 😀. And what's wrong with going on with your life after a person you loved, Tara, died? She can't be sad forever... I mean do you all think than that her next love needed to be a copy of Tara? I wouldn't be happy with that since well now with Kennedy they show that Tara isn't replacable, but that Willow still can love other people though.

I don't see what's so awful about Kennedy. Yes, she's a spoiled brat, but she's also brave and strong (on the outside and inside), she obviously loves Willow to great depths that she defends her and praises her publically. Her flaws could be dealt with in time, it's not like Buffy, Xander and Willow started out as the mature young people they are now. Buffy was too spoiled, Xander was too smart-mouth-ed, and Willow was too mousy.

I've gone back and forth between liking and disliking their relationship, but overall, I get it. Many people fall for someone who isn't like the people they've fallen for in the past. Kennedy really cares about her, and they seem to have a good dynamic, and just the fact that Willow puts up with her shit tells me Willow actually really likes her.

The only thing I don't know, is if Tara came back, what would happen. I don't know how Willow values Kennedy in comparison to Tara. I'm sure everyone in this thread would say Tara, but I mean Willow seems to know when she's moved on (ala Oz).

For Willow, there is pretty much no better person to date than someone in the Slayerverse, and they've been going out a while and still have the fire, so I really like this relationship. Honestly I blame the actress not the character for some of the annoying things in the tv show, and I really like Kennedy in the comics.

I think the characters had exactly as much chemistry as Joss intended for them to have, and Iyari and Alyson played their parts just the way they were supposed to. (VERY sexily at times, I might add.) It was supposed to be a sort of strange and hesitant relationship that might or might not grow into something more. According to season 8 so far, it is doing so.

I loved Willow+Tara and honestly wish they hadn't killed her, but Willow+Kennedy rang fairly true to me as portrayed.

Joss fully intended to bring Tara back in season 7, and the only reason it didn't happen is because Amber wasn't available. And we've been told she won't be back in season 8, though beyond that is anybody's guess.

I especially like the way Kennedy's progressed emotionally in the "Time of Your Life" arc...at the start she's so insecure and afraid of losing Willow that she pops her claws the moment Buffy says something affectionate about Will. (Buff's recent lesbian escapades making her a new potential rival). Then Willow reassures her, and by the end Kennedy is able to joke about her earlier feelings as Buffy hugs Willow and says she loves her.

I think Joss has this relationship well in hand. I'll be interested to see what Kennedy and Satsu have to say to each other in issue #22. (Thank God Joss is more sensitive to Dead Lesbian Syndrome now...both those characters may owe their lives to that, knowing him.)

I totally agree with you that Willow and Kennedy had good chemistry, and I liked their interactions, but her brattyness with Buffy and other people was ridiculous. Maybe that was exactly what Joss wanted, but I don't know, that's why I said I go back and forth between liking and disliking the relationship. The same bratty character makes me like her when she's bratty and spoiled with Willow because I find it somewhat charming and interesting, and then when she's bratty with everyone else I just go aaaggggghhhh.

Conversely, in the comics, I enjoy Kennedy's brattyness with everyone, especially her interactions with Buffy once she found out about Buffy and Satsu, which I found extremely entertaining.

Oh and I know this is OT, but I've heard about the "1 Wish" Scenario where Buffy brings back Tara, and I think that's just so lame, and very after school special... except I totally would love to have scene a Tara vs Kennedy scenario. Actually what would've been hilarious to me is that in a way, that would be extremely disrespectful of Buffy to Kennedy, like Kennedy would have total rights to hate Buffy's guts.

Now that's a question fans would be most interested in knowing the answer. I mean, for us to how know Joss sees it because its pretty much in his hands. I can say Tara for all eternity and it wouldn't matter. But Tara died. That's the only reason Willow *had to* move on so we can't really compare it with Oz. If she'll somehow come back, I'm pretty sure Willow will be conflicted but I don't think Kennedy stands a chance.
