Question Why isn't Joss credited?

This has probably been mentioned before but i just can't figure out...

Why isn't Joss Whedon credited for films such as :
Speed (1994)
The Getaway (1994)
Waterworld (1995)
Toy Story (1995)
Alien Resurrection (1997)
X-Men (2000) "“ treatment

I know there's others too. It just dosen't make any sense. Anyone got any ideas?

Because script doctors don't get credit as the screenwriter - they're paid to fix up the story written by someone else.

Trick question... he's a co-writer for Toy Story and won an Academy Award. 🙂

He was nominated for the Oscar as part of the writing team for Toy Story, but they didn't win.

I didn't realise he was a script doctor, it all makes sense now!

Sometimes it also can have to do with the deals made with other crew. Credits are negotiated hard lol - so say you're on a James Cameron film and he rewrites your script. Chances are it's going to credit him as the writer by the deal he made. All credits are at the discretion of the producers of the film.
