Why Leave Buffy in s6

I'm curious, why did ASH took a break from Buffy in s6-7. Was it Joss that wrote him off for a while or is it Tony Head that took a break?

I'm sure it's been asked and answered before but I never actually heard of the reason😕

Made me so sad to see him leave in s6 only to leave once more in s7. The gang isn't the gang without Giles!
 
From what I remember his kids were young and he didn't want to be spending so much time away from them so his role was reduced.
 
ASH had spent five years living most of the year in the States, while his partner and daughters were back in England. He just wanted some time with them and agreed to a minimized role on the show. Which, you know, is understandable, given that his daughters were both quite small at the time. I think they're in their late teens/early twenties now, right?

I can understand why Giles left. At first he felt he wasn't needed, what with Buffy being gone, and then, when she came back, he realized that she was using him as a crutch and wouldn't find her own feet if he continued to be the parent in their relationship.

By the end of S6, though, I think he understands that he was wrong, and that's why he came back to fight Willow and also why he was the one who was given the task of rehab-ing her - because he WAS the parent, the adult.

That's good to know! Completely understandable!

I think the way they wrote him off was pretty good too, I guess the way it played out was pretty convenient since at that point Giles wasn't absolutely needed in Sunnydale.
 
I heard it was partly wanting to spend more time with his family (one of his daughters is Carly in The Inbetweeners! Funniest TV show in a while) and partly that he felt Giles had less and less to do.
 
Like already said, he wanted to spend more time with his family. At least that's what I read as well. The story of season 6 allowed them to write him out for the most part. I think they also filmed the part where Willow is in England at his place and I think he's even riding his own horse.

Yeah, partner. They're not married and that's how ASH refers to her when he speaks about his family. I guess he thinks they've been together for too long for them to consider themselves 'just' boyfriend and girlfriend, lol.

I like that. You don't hear "partner" from heterosexual couples... ever.
