why people hate spike?

Spike has been fighting all his demonic instincts for so long he's become more human than any other known vampire. All those nice little human traits he displayed even in season 2 show us that he's a complex vampire and so much more than angel. He's a faithful lover (very uncommon for vampires), he hasn't killed humans for some time, he likes hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows, he watches Tv soap operas and series, he respected Joyce as much as his own mother, etc. He decided to save the world on more than one occasion because he doesn't want it to disappear. He likes it too much.
He IS the better vampire where Angel is concerned but doesn't confront him because he still respects his grandsire although Angel abandoned his duty more than a 100 years ago... THAT's the kind of man he really is.
Still the Big Bad where demons are concerned( remember he is a Master Vampire in his own right, with no help from Angel) but a real soft heart where most humans are concerned, specially those related to the Slayer, whom he helps even when he doesn't want any credit for it.

Okay, character aside, some people prefer Angel or Spike. I have no qualms with that. But saying Spike is the more human vampire is, to me, totally fanon.
Spike is driven by selfishness, and seeks to gain whenever he can. Want proof? The whole conversation between Angel and Spike in Destiny was spot on for each of their character.

Spike: You had a soul forced on you--as a curse. Make you suffer for all the horrible things you'd done. But me...I fought for my soul. Went through the demon trials. Almost did me in a dozen times over, but I kept fighting. 'Cause I knew it was the right thing to do. (jumps up to Angel) It's my destiny.
Angel: Really? Heard it was just to get into a girl's pants.


And Lindsay's passing comment on Spike in Soul Purpose

Lindsay: You just helped a person when there wasn't anything in it for you. That's not like the Spike I know.
Spike:Really? And what Spike is that?
Lindsay: A Spike that's only out for himself. Who only does good deeds to impress...(pause), women?

Spike doesn't care about the world. he only cared for one thing. Buffy
He did everything for her, whether it be saving the world, or keeping Dawn's identity a secret. It was all for Buffy. While it may be noble, in a romantic sort of way., it wasn't a genuine concern for the world. When he loved Drusilla, he did everything for her. Now that the roles have switched, Spike remains the same: He'll do anything for what he desires.

Angel fights the good fight because he truly wants to. He doesn't let love cloud his vision of justice. He truly wants to repent for his past sins. People complain that he broods to much, that he should move on like Spike. But that would be wrong. Angelus caused much mayhem and destruction, on a scale which Angel could probably never make up for. How can you allow him to forget all he has done? All the people he has killed? At the end of Damage, even Spike is beginning why Angel still holds on to the past.

Spike :The lass thought I killed her family, and I'm supposed to what, complain? Cos her's wasn't one of the hundreds of family I did kill?

I'm not saying you're right, cause er...I'm physically incapable of saying that. But er... For a demon, I never did think that much on the nature of evil. Just threw myself in. Thought it was a party. I liked the rush, I liked the crunch. Never did look back on the victims.

Here, Spike confessess that he has never thought about his sins, even after he had a soul. It was until up to the whole Dana thing, that he's beginning to see Angel's POV.

A soul is not a trophy. Its not a prize. Its a punishment, meant to torment. Angel sees that, Spike did not, but he is beginning to.

I was one of the initial people who feared Spike's arrival to Angel. Not because of JM's acting ability(which he possess, alot) or his character overshadwing everyone else because of his "depth"(allow me to vomit). Because I assumed he was brought in solely to attract the Buffy crowd who only watched the show to oggle and salivate at him. Indeed, Spike did take over the whole of season 7. He was even responsible for very poor writing (The whole Giles and Wood wanting to kill him mini arc) Luckily, the wirters of Angel are truly geniuses, and are in the process of totally revamping(pun intended) his extremely shallow character from Buffy.

Before labeling me an Angel freak, I loved Spike once upon a time. He always got the best lines and was so fun to watch, before he became Buffy's ******. Now that Angel has rekindled my love for the character, I can't wait to see what's in store for out bleached friend.
 
Well, wether he did it for a girl or the greater good, he was still doing good before he even HAD a soul. Yeah, he even GOT his soul for a girl but even at that rate it's still better then a curse.

Spike has had to face this new life with a soul for a lot less time then Angel. Yeah, the guy is still learning. But honestly, I think he denys a lot right now. Like we're going to see nearly as much of his underbelly around Angel and company as we would around Buffy...so yeah, we continue to see a bad boy cover. That isn't all he is. I doubt that Lindsey would know his character better than anyone else. That's not the best proof of anything. And that quote with Angel, well, Spike was caught up the year before in the guilt of what he had done to the one woman he'd loved. He hadn't had to face a particular scenario when he wasn't crazy or trying to work backward from what he was. And you never mentioned any of the quotes from the end of Beaneath You. They said a lot for his suffering I thought. This year he is coming to terms with what they had been all those years. He's seeing his sins on a greater scale outside of the less recent insanity that marked him. God, Angel had a long time to get his morals all straight before we supposedly saw the result. This great hero. But Spike has had to do that in such a smaller span of time. Most of what you judge him for is a time frame that is uncomparably fair to Angels. Give the guy a freggin' break...we're talkin' a year in comparison to over 100...jeez...like Angelus would have come half as far as Spike before the curse. Really gotta look at the pony your backing before ya bag another. Spike was about the love of one before the greater good. But that is something that has changed as of late. And yes, even for yet another woman. But ya know, I'm a good person. If I were to go to war to make this world a better place, my number one reason is for my children. Long before the world or my country. Doesn't make my heart or intensions any less pure. Doesn't make me, as a person, any less honorable. It doesn't make him selfish. It makes him more human. As William he had that passion for love and as Spike, soul or no it's a virtue he never lost. I commend him for it.
 
Nope. He certainly isn't...just as Angel's no Spike. And that's just fine by us Spike lovers. Because Spike is so much more real. IMO. 😉
 
I love when people argue about who's better lol...can't we just say they are both great in different ways?,they are champions,good guys,ex lovers,...they rock,go both of them

Lol,you're so right🙂,but I don't see waht's wrong about Spike being Angel's true love,..people are so selfish,they should be happy for them😀.


(Yeah,I guess we are😛...but it doesn't bother me at all🙂)
