Why the exclusive 'shipping?

^ True, but she was over 18 by then. 😀

How does that make it any less creepy? o_o

Um, she wasn't a minor?

It's still creepy! I mean, come on, wouldn't you find it disturbing if some guy that you really loathed was following you around everywhere and standing in front of your house listening to you get laid by your boyfriend and then proceed to follow your boyfriend out without him knowing? That is creepy as [insert cursing here] and I don't care if it's Bangel or if it's Spuffy, stalking is just VERY disturbing and should get you on something like Megan's list.

I really wish I was stronger and could stay out of these debates! *sigh*

So the fact that Buffy was over 18 when Spike stole her underwear, created a shrine to her, got his girlfriend to role play as her and got a guy to make a sexbot of her makes him stalking her not creepy.

Right...got it.

No. The fact that he didn't have a soul just makes that different from when Angel stalked her.

Yes, but Spike's intentions were completely honorable. He wanted to kill her.
*scratches head* At that point in time, no, he wanted to screw with her.

We're agreeing, sweetie! *let's gasp together at this moment!* XD Yes, I found that completely creepy. Which is why it's wrong and disgusting. I mean, it was enough to have Angel stalk her already. But to have another guy do it to such an extent? Three words: creepy as [#$%^].

Ah, but Miss K, if you could stay out of these debates, you wouldn't be the bastion of Bangel-ness that we have all come to love over the years. Truly, it's such a pity that loyalty such as yours is wasted on such a lost cause.

And as for the shrine, I've seen pictures of your shrine to Angel, and we all KNOW that an Angel bot has been on your Christmas wish list for years. As for the underwear, I ain't goin' there on a family friendly forum.

Dear dear WA...we are talking about Spike's stalking not mine...totally off topic! ;)
Oh, how can I NOT post just to mess with Kean?

Other than Killow, I do think there was a good point to all the relationships.
Although, like Blondie, I just like Spike. He makes me laugh. And he makes me laugh the MOST when he's with Buffy. And he makes me go "awwww" all through S7...and in parts of S6.

Actually, I don't think Buffy DESERVES Spike, because she was basically thankless for everything he did for her.

But, I can't stand Bangel!
(okay, secretly, when I'm watching it, I can usually be OKAY with it, I'm not sure I wanna throw up the entire first 3 seasons....but don't tell Kean.)
It's the moony "oh, I love you but I have no idea why" thing that drives me straight up the wall. It's very high school. Which is fine for the first few seasons because she's IN high school. (no word yet on why Angel's a moony dork though.)
But as for being the end all epic love based on nothing but "Angel's Dreamy", it's really no better than the people complaining about Twilight. (he he he...mine is an EVIL laugh. :lmao: )
He spends most of his time broody...when he's not evil. She spends most of her time broody because he's a vampire, then because he's evil, then because she killed him and once or twice just weird and moody for no good reason. They needed some counseling.

By S7, her relationship with Spike is a LOT more "real"....kinda like Angel's with Cordy. Based on genuine affection and respect. That's the kinda love that makes me happiest to see.

I wanted to write a whole post about this, but I decided to just agree with you. You just made more sense than I ever will ^^
I have been a Bangel shipper from the very beginning. It is probably what hooked me about the show initially. Why do I ship Bangel above all others? because I believe in it, cuz Buffy was never happier than when she was with Angel, becuase they made each other better people, becuase they made each other feel safe, they trusted each other, they had enough forsight to let each other go when they needed to no matter what it cost their hearts, becuase they still love each other, because they can have other relationships and somehow still find each other again, becuase none of these other relationships have ever come close to being what they had and still have, because the two of them loving each other was the whole point.

🙂

I couldn't agree more. 😀

Lots of people seem to think the Buffy/Angel relationship was "highschool." "Teenage love." "First love crap." Which are all different ways of saying "immature." But I completely disagree with this. Buffy was not the average high schooler. She was not the average teenager, so to call this relationship an average teenage relationship is nothing more than an insult to Buffy.
She shows incredible maturity during her relationship with Angel that she didn't show when she was blowing off her friends for Riley or distancing herself from him later in the series; nor does she show this level of maturity when she is boinking Spike behind her friends' backs and relying on him instead of facing her issues.
It was first love, it was consuming love, but I don't see how that is synonymous with immature love. They cared about each other deeply, but they were also extremely independent from one another. There are several episodes in S1, S2, and S3 where Angel wasn't even mentioned. (Can we say that much for S4 with Riley, or S7 with Spike?) I loved that Angel wasn't at the forefront of everything that Buffy did, but he was still there. That's a mature relationship. It's not what comes to mind when I think of the typical teenage relationship - where every moment of every day is spent together until they get sick of one another. I love that Buffy was able to move past their love and do what was best for the world despite everything. That's maturity. I even love that Angel left, realizing (MATURELY!) that he and Buffy just couldn't work right then, and how Buffy accepted it (MATURELY!). How, exactly, were they immature?
Buffy and Angel had something with each other that I truly believe they will never find with anyone else. And no, not because they were each other's first loves...but because they were each other's deepest loves.

Anyways, I guess fans will support the 'ship that appeals to them most. I can agree that all of Buffy's relationships were essential to her and the progression of the show in the same sentence that I can say Bangel is my favorite. (See? Just did 🙂)

miromurr;649872 Why do so many root intensely for one particular relationship that all others are excluded as uninteresting or wrong?[/QUOTE said:
To get back to the original question...

I root for the Spuffy relationship because I root for Spike. He's the monster who becomes the hero, and though it starts out, as Angel so eloquently put it, "just to get in a girl's pants," ultimately it becomes doing the right thing simply because it's the right thing to do. Not because of hope for any rewarding prophesy, and not in answer to "What would Buddy do?" but because in the end, it has become what Spike would do.

(Plus, anybody as broody and self-rightous as Angel needs someone to kick the slats out from under him on a regular basis)

I agree, we must get back to the original question.

I think why people choose a particular relationship has many factors, like which series did they see first, who is more attractive (for the men of course 🙂 ), and storyline. But I think that it also comes down to peoples identifying with one of the relationships in real life.

Anyway, must stop now, as I can see myself stepping on very treacherous ground
:thought:

Reads the Bangel/Spuffy fight... thank God I ship Spander 😀

On the show, I liked Xander/Cordelia, Willow/Oz and Spike/Buffy, but I'm not obsessed with them 🙂
