Why the name Faith doesn't fit her.

Does anyone else agree with me that Faith is not the right name for her? I really like Faith, but I think that she is too wild to have the name Faith. Also I always thought she looked like a Hope more than a Faith.
 
I think her name didn't suit her in the way that mine doesn't suit me; it's too girly for her temperament, too sentimental. But then it was poignant in that she wanted so badly to believe in the world around her.
I think Hope would have been too obvious though.
 
I think it's meant to be that way. It's meant to be a name that doesn't sit well with her personality because she is so insecure in who she is. I think it was meant to project an opposite. Plus, sometimes you find faith in the least likely place.

So then Buffy would have had to go on a date with a guy called Scott Faith...or Mr Trick would have been Mr. Faith and Scott would have been Scott Trick 😉

I think it did suit her. I agree that at times it didn't seem like it suited her, but I think that is because of her insecurities and lack of faith in the world and the people in it.
But by season seven, she deserves that name. 🙂

I think it totally suits her. Knowing who the character is, knowing what she goes through in Buffy and Angel, I think the name suits her well. She needed to have faith in herself to get over certain things in her past. Plus, Joss says he always puts a lot of thought into a character's name, so it seems right to me.

When she first came into the show, for me she didn't suit the name one bit, but once having seen her over and over on the show... hell yeah it suits her.

It's like she was written off by Buffy, who didn't have faith in Faith's good side and has (in the show) always been down on her, seeing her as the bad slayer... but like Angel, who had Faith in her good side, then she can prove she wasn't the bad seed.
 
I think at first glance it was meant to be ironic that a woman who has so many insecurities, no real place in the world and so little faith in people (and in whom people - especially Buffy - have so little faith) carries the name Faith.
Then, when you think about it, it's like Bluebird and Fake Shemp said: She needs Angel to believe in her so she can have faith in herself so she can prove she is not the evil slayer and become the person she is in S7 of Buffy and S4 of Angel. A strong, young woman who knows and believes in herself and suddenly the name Faith doesn't sound so ironic anymore.
 
I didn't think it suited her at first, but she kinda grows into it.
Also, I think her name was supposed to be used to create some irony and adds to the story. It's not just her name, it's more about her and how she acts and how faith is a major part of all that.
 
I also just thought that Hope wouldn't have suited her either because that suggests she needs to have 'hope' that she will find some way of being a better person. Faith implies what we all knew, that she always had it in her, she just need to have faith in herself, and like most others have had, feel like people had faith in her to be the person she was all along.

Nah, she isn't. She's an alienated and lost teenager put even more on the fringe by a gift beyond her control, her insatiable need for someone or something to have faith in comes through from that character in waves, I mean, just look at her relationship with the mayor in season 3.
 
I think the name does both. I swear the writers even hinted in a DVD extra somewhere that here's a girl who is the opposite of Buffy. Shes unstable, untrustworthy, has had literally everything shes ever tried to hold on to taken away or spat back at her with a name thats the complete opposite of that. Faith didn't have any faith in herself and in her own life, it went completely backwards on her and eventually she found a way to work twice as hard as most to begin to gain that back. By season 7 you see Faith have a little more faith in things, she was beginning to finally find her feet in the world, and thats when you see that the name Faith really does suit her.
 
I think it's supposed to be ironic and to get us thinking more into the name. Once we do that, I reckon we're meant to see how the name suits her. When she has no faith, she's bad (like when she killed the guy in Bad Girls, she lost faith in herself and goes to work for the mayor), but when she *does* have faith, she's good (like at the end of Who Are You? with the whole "because it's wrong" deal).

And I don't think Hope would have suited her at all. Faith is very much about being in the moment while "hope" implies something in the future.
 
I think Hope is too wishy-washy. You can hope for something, but it doesn't really change anything nor does it seem definitive.

But to have faith in something, it's stronger. It means you really BELIEVE in something or that something will happen, and not just wishing for it.

Faith is a much stronger and more meaningful name than Hope, to me.

I feel strong just hearing this name. I mean, she's so strong to survive what she has been through. It's hard to come out of darkness, but she made it. I think it very suits her.

And Hope is too girly! 😛

p.s. Harmony's name doesn't suit her too, but Harm likely suit her. But I think she can't be both Harmony or Harm. She's in between. 😛
 
aw i think she suits the name Faith!!!!

It's well better than 'Hope'.

Faith is such a strong name,really powerful!I like it very much!Initially it doesn't really suit her because she doesn't seem to have faith in anything in her life...considering what she went through she lost her trust on people and she is "want...take...have"...and then she goes dark and starts hating herself...clearly she didn't have any faith in herself...But thank God,Angel exists!so names Angel and Faith ironically suit each other so well!!!Angel was the only one to believe in her redemption,she realises she does everything wrong and that she needs to change and finally she reagains control of herself and starts having faith!faith in herself and what she can do!she has to learn to be herself first and then she can be the real Faith!
