Why was 2016 such a terrible year?

Heard a lot of people talk about how 2016 was such a terrible year personally it was fine for me but why was 2016 terrible for you?(aside from the donald trump and celebrity deaths)

I don't see 2016 as a terrible year for me personally, however I did manage to sprain my ankle while on a charity run, which severely hampered my training and general fitness from September onwards. I've started running again now, and I'm hoping to get back to kickboxing in the new year, but it's been really tough for me, as someone who enjoys keeping fit and healthy, to be told I have to rest!

If anything though, it's taught me just how amazing the human body is. To suffer something so painful and for the body to slowly heal by itself. It's been slow, but ultimately I know it was the right thing to do. It's also taught me I'm not a machine, and that it's ok to not exercise sometimes 😉

Everything else has sucked though.... 🙄

I think people need a bit of a perspective on 2016 compared to decades gone by. But, certainly in the recent era it was the worse year in quite sometime IMO. Thank god its over🙂

For me, it was a lot of personal stuff that made me happy to see the end of it. (Although seriously, the celebrity deaths and results of the USA election were a buzz kill, to boot!! 😉 ).

But my anxiety this year has been worse than before, and I haven't been able to sleep consistently for months. Maybe it's just the age I'm at? But it sucked... Also in 2016 my mom deteriorated and had a boat-load of medical emergencies, then she passed away... then we lost my brother's mother in law when she passed away... then it was the mother of a very close friend of mine... Then the husband of another close friend (all within about 3 months of each other).

It just got to the point where I almost didn't want to pick up the phone, so much bad news at once. So strange, and tough to go through.

Lots of good things happened to, don't get me wrong. But it was a lot of doozies for one year...

personal stuff aside 2016 was a bad year but it was just a build up to how bad 2017 is going to be. During this year those folk who pretend to be intelligent will show how thick they really are.

Julian Assange has started by saying even a 14 year old could have opened said American politicians E-mails. It didn't happen but Assange said it could have happened. That to me shows how thick Assange is.
And D. Trump believes Assange but lets face it a lot of folk realise that Trump is a bit thick, just wait till he is President.

"Aside for Donald Trump" still leaves a helluva lot to remember about the 2016 Presidential campaign and election. Regardless of what your politics are, the utterly asinine, childish way that the Democrats/Clinton supporters took their defeat came very close to making me, for the very first time, ashamed to be an American. Trump was most certainly my first choice for President, and I do realize that he didn't get the majority of the popular vote, but he won by the rules set forth for the contest. I've seen a lot of Presidents elected in my 69 years, not all of them the ones that I would have preferred to see, but I have NEVER seen the American people react in the manner that they have, and continue to do, even now. This is the kind of thing that goes on in some third world banana republic, not here.

Give the devil his due, Trump awoke the sleeping giant here in the U S, the middle class White voters, the people who politicians have been literally ignoring for decades. well u can't really blame them,Trump (to my knowledge) had almost no political experience and was most known through his reality tv show.so it was pretty surprising when he did decide to run for presidency but to be fair to trump he did use that to his advantage to kind of relate to people more.

2016 was a great year for me, I've found a great job and moved into my first apartment. A lot of major life changes. I don't follow the media as much anymore, but I think since it tended to emphasize on this year's horrible election (and the general aura about that) people are glad it's over.

Yep, a lot of folk think of him as a joke, but that is his fault.
Obama is leaving after 7 or 8 years and he is 55 years old.
Trump is just beginning and he is 70 years old already. Much has been said about Russia meddling with the recent vote
yet Trump thinks it is all against him. Isn't that a sign of old age? The crazy thing is the American people want him as their leader.

Strange isn't it how when they sing the national anthem American's sing about how great their country is yet Trump has
said that America isn't great and it hasn't been great for many years and he promises to make the country great again.

And then there's Trump's ludicrous opinion about what will make America great, to awake the sleeping giant? Even now the
whole region is liable to feel the negative fallout of the trade war, that includes Australia. It has been suggested that many
countries will close the American army/ navy and air force bases. Can America afford to pay 1 million or so armed forces
personnel. Many cities have problems paying the wages for its employees, how will that help the American economy?

2016 was not a fun year for me either - but when ever people say how shit the previous year was - I seem to find what was good about it in my personal life. A hell of a lot of growth for me - in HUGE lurches. A heap of confusion but when it clears things seem so much clearer!

I am waiting today (maybe tomorrow too) to find out if I can make a massive life change. If so - 2016 did not go to waste.

Im pretty damn proud of myself at this end. And pretty damn proud of the people who managed to keep up the support for the years I have been going through medication withdrawal. Most of those people - the big supports for me - were met on this site. I wouldnt know how to use a computer if not for a certain lurker and brian haha. The humour of the Scots, the kindness of the Pommies (lovable english), and the education from the US and Scandinavian countries. All contribute to my healing.

When the real world scared me I could come here - where it was normal, with level headed people. So 2016 was great for that - sanctuary? It showed me that I am surrounded by morons in this suburb, thanks for broadening my brainpan.

The bad bads were the awful withdrawal, the cold turkey times when no one in real life would bother to pick up my script and I was far too ill to leave the loo. The loo. My second home. I am confident now not to poop myself in public - but I dont go out much. Vomiting is clearing too, coughing is worse, but Im not as nauseous and that was freaking awful to have ALL OF THE TIME. In comparison, even though the coughing sounds worse - its much nicer for me than feeling like Im going to explode both ends. The akathisia and anxiety is out of this world, but I have learnt what works for me and take pride in my new self care efforts.


Bring on 2017, I have hope now.

And Hillary is 69. Age isn't really an issue. And Trump has been a CEO a whole lot longer than Hillary has been a Senator or Secretary of State.

The crazy thing is the American people want him as their leader.

No, the crazy thing is, it wasn't so much the people who voted FOR Trump, as it was the people who voted AGAINST Hillary that decided the election. Trump won because more people voted against his opponent than voted against him.

He has a point, if you consider the fact that America sends more money out of the country than it brings in, and American companies are moving to Mexico because they can manufacture their products there with less regulation, lower wages, and little or no employee benefits.

As for how many countries will be wanting to close American military bases, they might want to look at the amount of money those bases bring into their country, plus the security that quite a few of then enjoy primarily because of our military presence. Closing those bases might not be in their best interest.

It has been suggested that many
