Why was Anya chanting?

While Willow/Buffy were fighting each other; Anya was chanting, why? What was the chanting gonna do? I forgot

Wasn't it a protective spell, didn't she protect Jonathan and Andrew too? Dam I forget, maybe someone can be more helpful.

Yeah i think Anya was chanting a spell to try and keep Andrew and Jonathan protected from Willow.

It was to ensure that Willow's powers had no effect on others, a sort of defence spell. But like Willow said, the spell didn't stop her using magic on herself, so she made herself super strong. This way Buffy and Willow could fight each other hand to hand, otherwise Willow would have clearly kicked Buffy's ass with her magic. The episode shows it clearly 🙂

I think that's what it was. It was to kinda protect Jonathan, Andrew, Xander, and Dawn while they were trying to escape.

As Yosso said, it was an anti-magic chant. So that Willow couldn't use magic on others.

Yeah it seemed to negate any spell that effected others, but didn't stop her effecting herself!
