Why was Dawn written too young?

Honestly I think with Dawn she is very child like since this is the only world she is used to, I have come to love her character right after when she found out that she was in the key. To a point she reminds me of both Buffy and Willow, but to different points. Does anyone besides me see that?

Yup. I know what you mean. I think Dawn is a pretty compassionate, dealer-like chick who strikes a similarity to Willow. And yet Dawn can also lash out and be quite fierce like Buffy.

Honestly in season 5 when it started she reminded me like I would imagine Willow, but at times I realized why they had made her Buffy's sistert....the way she can lash out...then she immediatly became one of my favs🙂

I think Dawn was written waaaaay too young. She's 14 years old! Not 7! I'm 16, but I haven't changed much in two years and I was definitely not that immature then. As someone previously pointed out, Buffy was only 14 or 15 when she was called. Dawn was written as really immature and whiny. But I still like her!

I think your right thats the reason i disliked dawn in that season. I didnt think that she couldn't compete with the scoobies though if they had made her more grown up then she could have been a key element to the gang, seeing as she was the slayers sister. I understood the Joss hed to make her seem young and helpless in seasin 5 but he didnt need to make her braty and child like. I know when i was 14 i certainly didn't act like that. I think Dawn gave 14 yr olds a bad rep.

It's wierd i mean i like dawn coz her and buffy have a special connection but i think she could do a bit more.

Okay I always agreed that Dawn was acting a lot younger than her age, which she of course is... But I have started to find it just a little bit adoring instead of completely abboying, lol. I mean isn't it pretty sweet that Dawn and Joyce are so close? Buffy always had a lot of other things to do, and maybe Dawn had a hard time getting new friends when they moved to Sunnydale (well I guess she did since she obviously doesn't have that many friends), and maybe Joyce was a bit lonely (that we know she was)... So Buffy being a way a lot, isn't it always logical that Dawn is a bit childish? I mean we haven't seen her around her friends, maybe she doesn't act like that in school, but at home she's her mom's Pumpkin Belly and Buffy's annoying little sister..?

I agree Epo. About Joyce and Dawn, it really is sweet and if both of them had trouble finding new friends after they moved it isn't very strange that they bonded either. And if Dawn isn't hanging out much with friends her own age, and at home Joyce needs something to take care of and Dawn falls back on being "the baby" as sort of a security thing. Being a little sis myself, I know that many times when things haven't been great I've done similair things..
