Why was my post moved to Cemetery?

I posted a question regarding this board (in "The Bronze") versus other boards, recommendations for boards other than this one; but not in any kind of denigrating or rude way - mostly just about how active this board was versus other Buffy theme boards, if there were any that were more active, etc.

And next thing I know, it's been put in the "Cemetery" board.

Since the PM regarding this said "do not reply, this is an automated message" etc. - can someone tell me why a post would be moved like that?

I just read over the FAQs and rules, and I couldn't find one mention of any rule the posting broke. Perhaps someone could point me to such a rule, or tell me why such a post would be moved?

Thanks much!

Well, it's just kind of rude, posting on this board asking for recommendations to other Buffy boards...

Hmm... I could see how you might feel that way, so I'm sorry if it had that effect.

Personally, given the way I asked it (nicely, no big negatives placed on this board), and since I like to think we're all part of One Big Happy Buffy Family, I'd think that advice on any resources we all could refer to would be a great thing, not a negative. The more info the better, I say.

Now, had I said "This board sucks! (pun intended 🙂) Can someone recommend a better one I can use instead of this one?" I would readily agree with you. But I will have to disagree - I was looking for recommendations for other boards to add to my collection of resources, not one to replace (or put up as "better than") this one. I like this place.

Ah well. Thanks for letting me know your opinion, in any case. If it's not already in the FAQs or posting rules/guidelines, I think it'd make a dandy addition.

Reading your original post, I actually felt the same as Darla. It wasn't the language you used, it was the words you chose. Like when you said that this board is not as active as you thought it would be, I did find it kind of rude and offensive. I know you didn't mean it this way, but it came out as if you think this board isn't good enough.

And the other thing, asking to recommend on a different place... It's like walking into a chinese restaurant and ask where there's another chinese restaurant.

I think that's why Darla got offended.

No problem - I understand now why the posting caused offense.

Would it offend anyone, do you think, if I said that I've been disappointed at the activity I find at ANY Buffy boards I've looked at? I found this board when I was searching for places where active discussions of current "canon" Buffy materials were happening (I've been reading the Season 8 and Season 9 comics, and trying to catch up with the older comics); things move along at a reasonable clip in some places I've looked at (including here), but I was more just disappointed with the state of various Buffy theme boards, as compared to boards with a very heavy thread posting rate (I read a lot of technology boards, for example, where whole new pages are generated every day for the top 50 threads, say).

So my main question was - more to the point - are there any discussion groups that are like THAT - that have an extremely high posting rate, very active debate, etc. like some of the technology discussion boards?

I'm not sure where I would ask such a question, but in the existing boards of that type already, which - if what you say is true - is bound to offend somebody. How to ask about the "current state of Buffy boards 'round the world" as regards posting rate, without someone taking it to mean I was putting their own board down?

I'm open to suggestions! 🙂

Actually, we do have a bit in there about not posting links, and we don't allow links to other Buffy boards in sigs. It's not really something that needs a rule, per se, you aren't in trouble.

Frankly, from my point of view, you're free to go to whatever boards you want, I truly don't care or mind, but in all honesty we have had so many boards steal from us over the years that I just really don't want to be in the habit of using up our paid-for resources to advertise other boards. It's more of a principle thing than trying to keep people away from other boards.

It would be nice if we could all be one big Buffy family, but the treatment we've gotten from other Buffy boards over the years has been pretty crappy, and doesn't exactly foster togetherness.

I hope that answers your concerns.

I wasn't offended, it's just kind of...I don't know what the word is. Off?

I don't think that would offend anyone. Okay, maybe I should say it wouldn't offend me, and it shouldn't offend anyone else but I can't promise it won't lol

[I'm not sure where I would ask such a question

I think you should put some of what you wrote above in a new thread in the Bronze, because it would be interesting. 🙂 Not asking for recommendations, but talking about the phenomenon and if it's just Buffy or tv in general that's the problem. 🙂

Hmm, if the focus is going to be on Buffy, the I'd put it in Inside Out, but if it's more in general then The Bronze.

🙂

Well that's nice to know. 🙂 I have been on boards where merely posting the same or a similar question in more than 1 forum topic is grounds for being put on warning, if not dismissal (and disagreeing with the moderator, even in a friendly way, is grounds for dismissal). I didn't see the part about not posting links - the tech forums I use, of course, almost REQUIRE posting of links to other tech sites, since that's how info is disseminated in those subject areas, so I didn't even think about it. Thanks for the head's up!

I get it - and that sucks about other boards stealing your info/users/etc. Kind of mean-spirited of them.

Again, I get it - obviously there's lots of history I'm not aware of (being new here and all). Too bad that it hasn't been possible to be "one big happy family" in that way; I've spent many years on Usenet in technical discussions there, and although there are nice folks, there are also extremely rude people who will do everything they can to make someone feel bad or stupid. I've never understood that attitude myself - be it known, I didn't intend to bug anyone here, and am grateful for the existence of this forum! Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks for the advice - I may just do that. It'd be Buffy-specific, so perhaps Inside Out. I was sad that there's not even more discussion 'round the web on the subject. Then again, back when Buffy was on TV I only watched a few episodes, and when friends tried to describe the complex plots and histories to me in later years when I thought I might go back to watching it, I gave up, thinking I just couldn't catch up.

Now that I have all the DVDs, though, I've been able to catch up, and am a late-blooming fan. 🙂

If you did that here, we'd delete the duplicate threads and probably pm you asking you not to post in more than one forum. 🙂 Which, again, doesn't mean you're in trouble, though some take it that way. lol

Well, I mean, like posting a thread with just a link to a site. You can post links to things as part of the discussion of course.

I get it - and that sucks about other boards stealing your info/users/etc.

It's not users, it's coding, graphics, activities, even the rules and forum names and descriptions lol

The whole software community makes me really annoyed a lot of the time because of how they treat other people. 🙁

Hey Tim.
Before continuing, I want to say that when I talk pesonally and not personally to new members, one of the things they say they're so surprised at about this board, is how active it is. They all feel overwhelmed because it's so big and active. So I'm not gonna agree with you on that. Comparing a Buffy forum to technology forum isn't a fair comparsion either.

Now for the suggestions. Look around more and follow the board. The threads are updated all the time, and there are many alive and deep discussions here, about many topics, with many pages long, even season 9. We even have contests, and exclusive forums (dorms, looks it up for more information) and challenges.
Of course there are hours that are less active, people sleep, people go to work and school. But overall, I think everybody here will agree that it's the most active Buffy forum we have today.

I'm not sure there is a way to ask that kind of question, just like there is no good way to ask another business about other businesses. Again, it's not that you were talking rudely, it's the question itself. There is no specific section where you could ask that. The mods work really hard to determine rules so this place will have order. That's why this forum works and is so successful, and that's why it's like no other board where everybody is rude to each other and there are fights all the time and there is no order till it's finally shut down.
