Why was Pike never heard from again?

I was rewatching the original Buffy movie and was curious as to why Pike was never mentioned again. I looked into and it and saw that there was a comic which added some background of Pike and Buffy's relationship following the movie, but why do you think Joss never even bothered to reference him in either Buffy or Angel?

I would have liked to possibly see an appearance of Pike played by a new actor and put in the episode where Buffy runs away to L.A. It would have been kinda cool to have a small link between character's in the movie and the character's in the TV series. Or seeing the interactions between Pike and Xander or Pike and Angel.

Anyone else agree or disagree?
 
I think if they included Pike it would have given to much credibility to the movie. The series isn't really a continuation of the movie, it's more based on the movie. The canon surrounding slayers and vampires is completely different (like the Slayer mole and vampires not dusting)

The story also doesn't match up, Buffy burnt down the gym in the series, but didn't in the movie. So I think it was better just to separate itself from the movie to not mention him.

Granted, Pike did return in the non-canon novel "Sins Of the Father" by Christopher Golden, but that's beside the point.

I'm almost 99% sure that Joss didn't bring Pike back because he simply wouldn't have fit into the story. Not to mention that he has publicly disowned the movie itself as a load of trash, and I think we see why that's so.

On the subject of Pike not fitting in, what exactly would he have done had he come back in say...Season 4? All that would do would be to create a love triangle, and that's not realyl something we would need on a season-basis. Even if Joss wanted to bring him back, there just simply wouldnt' have been a place for him.
 
Pike's too cool. He's the coolest male character in the entire franchise, he combines the best features of Xander and Spike and then some. Pike's the guy, the real deal, he rides into Sunnydale, every other male character pales in comparison, a bunch of infantile, obnoxious, petty losers.

Yah I get what you guys mean. I wasn't saying to make him a series regular but just a reference or something. Pike technically is Canon, not by the novel, but in a comic prequel.

And lets not be too hasty about trashing the movie. If the movie hadn't ended up a basic failure in Joss' eyes then we might never had even seen the TV series at all.

I would have liked to see maybe Pike calling Buffy on her birthday in a quick scene or something, just a nod to the movie for the people who have seen it. Joss, I feel is always giving little nods to his prior works so it surprised me when I noticed there was not reference to him at all. Its almost like he just let an interesting character just slip off into the Buffy-verse without even killing him off first lol.

Also we had that whole episode about one of Buffy's old friends (Who nobody had ever heard of) from L.A coming back into town and wanting to be turned into a Vampire. If there was time for that filler episode why not just have Pike make an appearance lol.

I had always heard that the gym being burned down was said in the TV series because that was how Joss had actually meant for the movie to end, but when they botched the movie they took that out along with a lot of other things that Joss had meant to include.
 
I fan-canon that into thinking it caught fire after the chaos of the ending battle, so we didn't see it on screen but it happened.

I always thought that Joss simply didn't want to get into the mess of what the movie was so decided against bringing any characters back from it.

I also kind of thought that those characters he brought back in that episode, wanting to be turned into vampires, was the gang in which Pike would have been and they simply didn't include his name. When I first saw that episode, I actually thought it was the same guy until I watched the movie and he had a different name.

Good point. I always liked Pike though... I thought it would have been cool to have him show back up. 🙂
 
Pike was one of the very few things I liked about the movie. I'm just thinking out loud here, but maybe instead of Ford in the episode "Lie To Me," Pike could have come back instead. It would have been pretty much the exact same storyline, just with Pike instead of Ford. It would have been pretty heartbreaking for Buffy to have Pike be that desperate not to die and deciding to turn on her. I just think it would have been an interesting (and kinda gut-wrenching) way to not only tie the movie and show together, but to also end Pike's story. Just a thought. 🙂

According to the movie, Slayer can be identified as they have a mole on a specific part of their body, which doesn't seem to be a case on the show.
 
Well, Buffy had it removed (per the movie) so if it's just a birthmark, the others *could* potentially have it and we just don't know about it.

Chances are that if Luke Perry had been in the series he would have been given the star treatment and he would have cost to much.

I like that idea, but also hate it haha. It would have been a good episode, but based on Pikes demeanor toward vampires in the movie I personally couldn't see his character wanting to become one. I picture Pike's character in the series to almost be similar to that of Gunn's character in Angel. A free lance vampire slayer on the streets of L.A. He could have been trained a little bit by Buffy imbetween the movie and the series before parting ways.

I'm pretty sure I actually read about that somewhere, I think it was either Joss or one of the producers mentioning something along this line.

Ah yes, that - thanks for reminding me.

"What? That hairy old mole? Ew! I had that thing removed!" 🙂

I still do love quite a few lines from the movie - eg. "You threw a *KNIFE* at my *HEAD*!"
