Why was Spike on one of the discs of Season 3 DVD?

Does anybody know why Spike was on one of the discs of the Season 3 DVD? Spike was only in one episode of the season. Shouldn't Giles or The Mayor have been in that slot of the DVD disc?
 
Probably because he's popular. That's about the only real reason I can think of. I can't recall who's on the discs beyond Buffy, Angel and Spike, but you'd think they could have someone involved in the season. Mayor Wilkins maybe.

I believe that its Buffy, Angel, Willow, Faith, Spike, and Oz/Cordelia (Not entirely sure on the last one)
 
I'm not sure, but that always kinda bugged me too... I just figured they chose him 'cause "Lovers' Walk" was one of the more popular episodes of the season.
 
My Season 3 set doesn't have Spike on one of the discs. All six discs show different pictures of Sarah.
In case you wanna know, I have the UK version. The US version probably has pictures of different cast members. I bought 2 discs (US) as replacements for broken discs and both had Willow on them.

Oh, and putting Spike on the disc, although he's only in one episode is kind of spoilery, don't you think?

Yeah, probably... But for people who have never seen the season they probably think he's got a bigger role in it than he really does. Then they'll see "Lover's Walk" and go "OH, there he is".
 
It's cool to have Spike on a disc, but I think it's stupid they put him on an S3 disc... They should've put Giles, Cordelia or Oz on it instead....

Oh my god! Is this a thing, is there like a website that sell standalone replacements discs? I have a few I'd like to get replaced???

The DVDs were coming out pretty slowly if I remember correctly, and if I am, Season 3 would have been released by the time Season 5 was on TV, so by that stage Spike was a main character, so probably got stuck on the DVD for that reason.
 
You can find replacement disk at places like Amazon and such check around

I got mine from ebay. There's this seller who offers every disc of the show individually. I see you're from Ireland, so you should mind the region code of the discs. US discs (region 1) don't play on European DVD players (region 2). You need a region free player. Some players let you type in a code in the menu to make it region free. And I think most computers have region free DVD drives. I also have a blu-ray drive that lets me change the region only 5 times. 😡 So I have to watch those two region 1 discs on the other drive. Meh.
 
Because he's one of the most popular characters in the show. I'm sure the marketing people knew that and wanted to capitalize and sell DVDS with it.

Season 1: Buffy, Buffy, Buffy
Season 2: Buffy, Xander, Buffy, Willow, Buffy, Spike
Season 3: Willow, Xander, Buffy, Angel, Faith, Spike
Season 4: Oz, Spike, Buffy, Willow, Giles, Xander
Season 5: Xander, Dawn, Buffy, Spike, Glory, Willow
Season 6: Willow, Tara, Buffy, Spike, Xander, Dawn
Season 7: Giles, Willow, Buffy, Spike, Dawn, Xander

Buffy: 11
Xander: 6
Willow: 6
Spike: 6
Dawn: 3
Giles: 2
Angel: 1
Faith: 1
Oz: 1
Glory: 1
Tara: 1

So Cordlelia, Riley, and Anya don't get a disc, but Glory and Faith (Guest stars), Spike (In seasons 2 and 3 as a guest star) do? This proves that it is popularity.
Here's how it should have been:

Season 1: Buffy, Xander, Willow
Season 2: Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles, Cordelia, Angel
Season 3: Willow, Xander, Buffy, Angel, Oz, Giles
Season 4: Xander, Spike, Buffy, Willow, Riley, Giles
Season 5: Xander, Dawn, Buffy, Spike, Giles, Willow
Season 6: Willow, Tara, Buffy, Spike, Anya, Xander
Season 7: Willow, Anya, Buffy, Spike, Dawn, Xander
