Why was Sunday a fan favorite?

I agreed with [MENTION=9799]Taake[/MENTION] about having a vampire slayer turned into a vampire being the big bad rather then Adam as she could of been the slayer who died which active Buffy, the slayer before Buffy. It would be amazing!

I think she was a favourite like other's said cause she was bad ass, she's like if Faith and Darla had a child together will would get Sunday.

I also think because she was the one who brought Buffy down, Angelus is the only vampire who really took the slayer down easily other's haven't but with Sunday she made Buffy look weak also I think it shows Buffy's weak side, she is now in a new enviorment, she lost Angel going through a heart break, Xander and Cordy don't go to college with her, new people, living outside home, because all of this was happening Buffy got so lost and also thought she was away from the hellmouth which was in school where all the demons came and now vampires can go in the rooms which scared her a bit, but Buffy soon realised she is the slayer and has to be strong that's why she could finally could stake Sunday.

But now I wish Sunday was the big bad 🙁

I'm not gonna lie when I saw the thread I thought it said Sunday like the ice-cream and went why wouldn't fans like ice cream? oh wait >.< having a cold messes your head hahaa!

I never really read or saw any indication that she was a fan favorite, or that she had any type of cult following (can you really have a "following" if you've only been in one episode?). I mean, if we're being totally honest here, I'm about as obsessed with all things Buffy as you can get, but if you'd asked me her name before this question, I would have been drawing a blank.

I mean, there were cooler vampires and demons throughout both Buffy and Angel. I liked that episode a lot, but more because of Buffy's story. Sunday was just kind of there to fill a role in my eyes.
 
I'd never heard about her possibly being a Slayer-turned-vampire! That would've been epic, in my opinion!
I really wish that had been the plot of Season Four now.
 
I watched The Freshman today and I fricking hate her guts. She's arrogant and stupid. I don't get why she could beat up Buffy that easily. There are some evil and totally dumb-ass characters that are actually incredibly unlikable, but somehow we still like them. In my opinion, Sunday isn't one of them.

I meant that in order for them to create a story where a slayer is turned into a vampire, they would need to get rid of Faith to do it. (Only existing slayers were Buffy and Faith)
 
I liked her because of her attitude and she looked great. Would have loved to have seen her around for a few more episodes.
 
I really liked Sunday. She was great. I love a female villain. She was sassy and still cute and pretty. She was just a bad-ass and could really give Buffy a run for her money. I was surprised she didn't last longer. I didn't like her dumb posse though...

Everyone gets mad about Buffy getting beaten in this episode, but that was kind of the prevailing message of it. Buffy was a mess, and not just with her slaying. She was totally and completely overwhelmed by college, by leaving home, by Willow and seemingly everyone else being ready for it all while she felt left behind, and most of all, by Angel not being there. All of that did a huge number on her, and Sunday was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of it. That happens. Even the best champions get knocked down once in a while when the circumstances align in the right (or wrong) way.

I don't think that Sunday or the episode on the whole made Buffy look weak at all (after all, she does get Sunday in the end). It was trying to convey a theme about what college is like, and I though it hit a home run.

I completely agree. The message is the most important thing and Sunday and the episode in general totally got it right. Everything is new and Buffy is just overwhelmed, she's confused and lost. Sunday seems to be an ordinary vampire, nothing special, and that's the point. But I still think it is weird that Buffy first gets defeated. However, my opinion is severely influenced by my strong dislike of Sunday.
And just on the side, I think some aspects of the episode are very similar to the storyline of The Dark Knight Rises.
 
I had never heard any chatter that Sunday was going to have an arc or any further development, including a backstory as a former Potential or Slayer. That, indeed, would have been better than the Frankenstein-stand-in! *facepalm*
For me I liked her because she was pretty and sassy and, in the writing world, she has a peerless pedigree.
