The Failsafe was a creature kept within the basement of Wolfram & Hart.

When the Angel Investigations team took over Wolfram & Hart, the Senior Partners, unsure if they would be able to keep Angel under their control, created a monstrous creature and stored within it in a tank in the W&H basement in the event that Angel turned against them. According to Eve, the Failsafe was "huge, alive, and specifically designed to destroy Angel".

His treason towards the Senior Partners in 'Not Fade Away' was clearly a viable reason to release the Failsafe creature on him. But why wasn't it? I'm pretty sure the Senior Partners could find a way to open it, even without that necklace-key needed to activate the machine. They can make it happen.

But why didn't they? If it was because the W&H building was breaking apart after Marcus Hamilton died, the Senior Partners could have just released the creature first before breaking the building. Remember it wasn't Hamilton's death that caused that building earthquake, it was the Senior Partners.

And even after they turned back time After the Fall, they could have still unleashed it on Angel on the same time they sent that demon army to LA. Take note that they sent the demon army to Los Angeles BEFORE they sent it to a Hell dimension. That's why when time was turned back, they still needed to fight those hordes of demons, even when they weren't in the hell dimension.

This huge one below Angel and Lindsey, yeah:

Maybe it was? It could easily have been somewhere in that crowd of demons in the alley. Could have been the dragon...

It had sharp tentacles and was completely black. Didn't see any in the alley. XD

Though if it was, Angel would be already dead since it was designed to kill him.

Because plot devices tend to come and go with their convenience to the story 😉
Sorry, got no better theory than that.

If I had been Angel and had been told that there was some demonic creature in the basement below where I worked just waiting to destroy me, I'd probably have found a way to deal with it before it had chance to attack me again.

Chances are that Angel would have made certain that it wasn't a threat, considering what he was planning to do. Probably had Wes find a way to kill it offscreen.
