Meh spooky shadow-monster voice/creature turns into Salem. I'm a bit underwhelmed honestly. Still think the series look great though, and a more realistic cat was a given for the new format... but can't hold a candle to Nick Bakay's voice.

@Spanky I think this clip made it feel more specifically like a teen-show than the previous one, maybe the "what now" is a bit of a pilot thing, where things are often a bit forced. I agree it sounded cheesy.

If she had to sum up her titular character in “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” star Kiernan Shipka would describe Sabrina Spellman as a “woke witch.”

The series, which premieres Oct. 26 on Netflix, is a reimagining of the famous teen witch’s story that has overt feminist themes. On the show, Sabrina is a half-witch half-mortal and becomes the first to question the male figures who rule the witches’ world, which leads to her reluctance to sign a pact to renounce the mortal world and embrace her magical side.

“This is totally the Sabrina for 2018, in so many ways. She’s a woke witch,” Shipka told Variety. “Her entire grappling with signing her name away in the Book of the Beast and questioning a lot of the more patriarchal elements of what she was raised to believe and to go into. I think that in and of itself is very feminist and she’s a strong independent woman and she stands up for herself and she does what she thinks is right.”

Lachlan Watson, who portrays Sabrina’s friend Susie, said the show’s feminism takes a step further with its intersectionality, which shows that anyone can be a feminist. Susie is non-binary, like Watson themself, and their experience with bullies at Baxter High is part of their journey to embrace their authentic identity, Watson said.

“Susie provides a side of feminism that really represents that you really don’t have to be female to be a feminist. It really encompasses all minorities and all misunderstood people, or gender inequality as a whole, I think,” they said. “Throughout Susie’s sort of queer journey — specifically a bit of a genderqueer journey — which really speaks to me, it’s having that group of incredible feminists behind their back.”

I've had a long time to think why it has been referred to as that, many folk say I was given to long to think about it but I digress, if that is what them guys said it means; I now know why it is referred to as the chilling tales.

I will probably give it a watch later. It does look promising. Like the actress out of Mad Men too.

I watched every episode of the original and hated it by the end. I'm always annoyed when people say "the first season was the best" & "it went downhill in the later seasons" but it's what I think of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The tone in the beginning was completely different. As it continued Sabrina became less likable, the aunts were written out, and her annoying human friends took the spotlight even though they didn't even know about the paranormal. They moved into her Victorian house not knowing it has a portal to another dimension or that Sabrina comes from a family of immortals with powers as amazing as Gods (immortality, flying, telekinesis, traveling to outer space, huge spells, teleporting, nearly indestructible).

I've given the new one 3 episodes and that's enough for me. No likeable characters, a poor script and some heavy handed politics. It's a shame because with the budget I'm sure this could have been good.

What do you think of the cast? I know the lead was in Mad Men and I liked her in that. Plus I hear good things about Michelle Gomez. But have also heard its hit and miss.

I really liked the first episode. It makes me excited for this show and also excited for the concept of what a Buffy reboot could look like. I also love Kiernan though and think she's a pretty great actress.

I liked the graphic novels.

Haven't seen the show yet but it has that chick from Mad Men, that chick from Doctor Who, that chick from Wonder Woman, and that chick from Lord of the Rings. I can imagine a YouTube joke vid about that.

You guys are making the choice to watch this a tough one! Its on netflix, easy access. I might give it a try but am concerned about this -

heavy handed politics

I think overseas viewers may pick up on that more than in the country it was made for, and it will really piss me off. But, I am a sucker for a pretty face, and if I fall for the character then I'll be hooked.

Unfortunately I think the pretty face is about all the character and actress have going for them. I don't feel she conveys any emotion at all. I'll qualify that by saying I haven't seen her in anything else and she might be handicapped by the script and everything else.

I watched the whole series and I agree with this assessment. I actually enjoyed the show, especially the later episodes and the finale was excellent, but I enjoyed everyone except Sabrina. I loved the Aunts, Ambrose was great, basically all the supporting players around her is what made it interesting, especially the bad guys 😉 Sabrina herself is entitled , self righteous and annoying and I couldn’t stand her voice or her hair. Give me a show about Prudence instead!!! 🙂 it’s definitely something you have to keep watching though because the first episodes aren’t that great, it only picks up steam and gets really good in the second half.

I'm up to episode 4. Its okay. There is stuff I like but I'm actually a little bored and have been debating if I should keep going or not.

Uggghh, yes. I find Sabrina really annoying but I like everyone else you mentioned also.

You have actually given me hope. I think I'll stick with it a bit longer now 🙂
