Have any of you heard the word wiggins/wiggy/wigged out before you saw Buffy? lol I havn't...just a little odd observation of mine! lol

We used to use it around here when I was a kid, but not much.
Yeah, I had used it before the show started. But I grew up in South California- the HQ of the wacky teenage slang so I'd always assumed Joss had got it from that, you know intergrated actual teenage cali slang with the way the writers speak (which admittedly made up the huge majority of the Buffy slanguage). But now BotD's comment above has confused me! Haha. Now I'm wondering whether *we* stole it from British films and I just never realized.....

I may have to ask hubby when he's back from work. He's English. He'll know. Right? Right?? (I need closure! haha)

(Most likely he'll just think I'm insane for asking such a random question)

First time I ever heard it was one of the Children in Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
I then later heard one of the other Children, not Hayley Mills, use it in Whistle Down the Wind which predates Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

It is also used in Home Alone.
Not English BUT predates Buffy🙂

Predates me too. (the other films, not Home Alone haha) :O Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Really? I used to watch that film a hell of lot as a kid. Maybe we all subconsciously brainwashed ourselves with the word....damn. haha. I'll have to find the old VHS of that film in the attic somewhere and watch it, listen for *that* word. hehe.
 
I just thought it was a slang variant of the terms "wig out" or "keep your wig on." I grew up in Cincinnati and the surrounding areas. I do vaguely recall hearing people say things like "don't wig out on me." So for Buffy to take that and all kinds of variants to it didn't really surprise me.
