Lots of wildfires around this year, we've got some around 30-40 miles away, so not currently affecting us. How is it where you are?

Nothing around here though it hasn't rained in weeks and so many things are bone dry.

Which is an odd thing to say, as my bones are quite a bit wet, apparently.
I am currently allowed to set fire to things in my yard if I want to.

@Stake fodder I only burn bodies, not plants. I like plants. 😁
I have seen my friends in New York complaining about the smoke a lot, from the wildfires in Canada. 🙁

How do you "see" people complaining of smoke?
I could smell the smoke when I went to the supermarket earlier, the news was reporting that a fire nearby had sparked up again.

That'll teach you to go to the supermarket.
@ILLYRIAN Why would it be impacting your friends back, in Seatle?

Usually when there's fires in California we get the smoke up in Washington.

My geography on American states is somewhat lacking, I thought those areas were on opposite side of America.
I'm an optimist. Burned land is land that can't burn again next year.
Yeah, thats it. We have prescribed burns/burn offs where I live to reduce the load in fire season. It always means a smokey autumn and spring but they are very effective where I am. I'd much prefer the smoke of a burn off than a raging out of control fire with high fuel loads during real drought.

There are areas that will still burn after a burn off because they try to keep it a cool burn under canopy, but with increasing opposition to burning off, the skills to do that are being lost. I do NOT want to be living in this area if they stop burning off, from here to the hills would be set up for catastropic erratication if the cool burns stop. The scrub grows back so fast, the fire does seem regenerative. And when burns are planned they are (supposed to be) slow enough moving for animals to escape. I just cannot understand the opposition to it, when it is practiced well (and not just hooligans setting fire to the bush in the name of burning off).

Usually when there are US and canadian fires the aussie firefighters go to help, but I havent heard them doing that on the news this year.

Also, a cool burn will not get up in a trees canopy, when those leaves die and drop onto the ground said ground could burn again.
When do you define a fire to be wild?
Is it when the fire gets wide enough to scare snakes towards you, though I'd suggest the fire is being merely happy at that stage.
The fire can be said to be wild when poisonous snakes are chased by said fire towards you.

My neighbour set fire to their bonfire and bunnies and snakes came running out all over the place! Hhaha.

There has been a lot of burning off around here too, I saw quite a few driveways along the highway on fire when I went driving on tuesday. They're all just standing around having a nice bbq and beer watching the fire creep along. Its good the kids were there too, learning how to watch and act safely around the fire.

It's gotten bad in my state now, with a fire encroaching on a major city and burning several houses to ash. We are warned that the smoke will start drifting towards us. I'm not too worried about that; I will wear a respirator mask outside, if needed. But I feel for those people whose houses burned down! 60,000 have been evacuated.

I saw an article that a helicopter or something like that crashed and took down a bunch of firefighters with it 🙁

Its windy today and the dude across the road has decided to burn off haha, at least the wind is not coming in my direction!

Yeah I heard that, two firefighting helicopters crashed into each other.

We had a little rain today, but nowhere near enough to damped anything.
